Some of you maybe remember me and my first cattery name - but most of you won’t! I bred Maine C**ns for about 10 years. After my “cat love and soul cat” Cooper died almost 9 years ago, a huge hole stayed in my heart. A big part of my passion and enthusiasm for this breed died with him - I haven’t been very lucky in my short breeding career, had a lot of health issues and stuff like that. Then, I h
ad big changes in my private life - a divorce and everthing that belongs to such a big step, a new man in my life, my marriage in 2016... And when you settle down, when you come back to yourself, these passions also come back...
And cat breeding is not only a passion - I used to say, it is a genetic defect... You either love it or hate it. And as a “real breeder” you only can pause, but you can never stop. And even in these now 8 years after my last Maine C**n litter, I always followed the (not always good) development of this breed, stayed in touch with my former breeder friends...
Breeding and selling Maine C**ns in Germany is hard, very hard. We have a huge number of Maine C**n breeders in Germany and Europe plus a big number of backyard breeders. Some of them are “good ones”, testing, taking good care of their cats - and some just try to sell as much as possible. Many of the breeders don’t know a lot about the Maine C**n, how it should look like, what the standard is, what health tests are necessary - not to mention genetic and line knowledge. On top of all these “pet-owner-breeders”, what I used to call them, we have the much more important threat - the socalled “Euro-C**n-Breeders”. Breeders, mostly from the East of Europe, Russia etc., who are breeding with certain lines a certain type of Maine C**n who - in my eyes - is not a real Maine C**n anymore. And I already hear some of you yelling.... NO, they are.... I love to talk about this topic, but not here - you always can write or call me...
For me, these breeders are one of the reasons why I am returning to the Maine C**n, despite of their bad reputation (I had kitten buyers here for my first and last litter of BSH kittens - they wanted to buy a Maine C**n first but heard everywhere, that they are soooo sick!”). Despite of the fact, that we have too many breeders and despite of the fact that I surely will have problems in selling kittens. The Maine C**n is a wonderful, loving, majestic, impressive, confident, well-balanced cat. With big ears (not like a rabbit), with expressive eyes (not like an Oriental...), with a square muzzle (not like a crocodile), with a large body (but also not only long and skinny - but long, massive, excellent boning, muscular, big paws and feet). Therefore I will return to the Maine C**ns - trying to avoid these “crocodile-skinny-rabbit ears etc.” lines as good as possible. Always keeping an eye on the genetic diversity of these wonderful creatures! A hard work - but breeding is never easy...
