Important words from the lovely and very skilled Sally Gutteridge 🫶🏼

We are still living in a society where dog training is the go to response when a dog might be inconvenient to live with. Let's face it, we humans are inconvenient to live with all the time and yet, we only train the dogs. And..Dog training can be terribly invasive if it isn’t delivered with the ut...

Update 3 (the picture is from a town nearby the kennel):

At least 4 dogs have died. It seems that none of them are ours, but we are waiting for confirmation. Maybe some are missing as the fences are broken.
Some people have tried to go to the kennel, but unless you live very close it's very difficult as most roads are closed.
There are at least 5 people there, helping the dogs.
We have rescues willing to take dogs but the problem is that it is very difficult to get there.
If you live in Spain and you have Bizum, you can donate directly to Edu, the kennel owner, so he can go and buy some food for the dogs: +34 637 83 00 28

There are less losses than we expected, but it's a nightmare. We still don't know if our dogs are safe.

The risks of oppressive dog training methods.

Dogs subjected to harsh and aversive training may develop fear of people or situations and why wouldn’t they?

For dogs who suffer mistreatment and go unheard, the World can look like a dangerous place.

A dog taught using overpowering methods may initially comply with the perpetrator because they are too scared to do otherwise.

Over time though the trauma sets in and the dog may become withdrawn or exhibit aggressive behaviours and insecurity.

In addition...

If a dog trainer has a strong presence which overpowers the dog (even emotionally) the dog may behave differently for the trainer than the guardian.

This not only undermines the dog’s safety and welfare but also the self-belief of the dog’s guardian.

It can cause conflict in the relationship between dog and guardian too. If a guardian sees a dog ‘behaving’ for the trainer, they may become frustrated with the dog – believing they are just being naughty with them.

Our role is to build the relationship between dog and guardian and empower them both.
