You took a cat from the street, but it doesn't eat dry food?
🐈 This happens: former stray animals do not quickly get used to a dry industrial diet. There are several possible reasons:
🔹 The habit of eating natural food. Street cats get their own food on their own: they catch mice, birds, and find leftovers in garbage cans. Dry food is very different from natural food, and at first the cat may ignore it.
🔹 Fear of new food. Cats are wary of the new type of food. Koteyka carefully tries unfamiliar foods, especially dry granules. This is a normal reaction of an animal accustomed to surviving in a wild environment.
🔹 Smell and taste . Some types of dry food have a specific smell and taste, unusual for outdoor cats.
🔹 The psychological factor. A cat may associate a new environment with danger or stress, so appetite temporarily decreases.
🔹 Health. Sometimes the refusal of food signals health problems. Be sure to consult your veterinarian if you notice any other disturbing symptoms.
What to do?
☑️ Offer small portions of wet food.
☑️ Gradually introduce dry food in small portions along with wet food.
☑️ Be patient and attentive to the behavior of the animal.
