Happy garden bunnies! Secure gardens are so great for rabbits. You get to see so much more of their personalities.
And when you don’t handle them unnecessarily they come running like a dog would.
These two run into their night time accommodation with one call (better re-call than my dog!) ❤️

A secure garden is by far the best option for keeping rabbits.

When rabbits are kept in the vicinity of wild rabbits (vaccinated or not) they often meet an earlier end due to the viruses the wild rabbits carry.

A secure garden gives rabbits freedom and also allows for a great relationship. When you keep rabbits like this and don’t pick them up, they become like dogs with a great re-call!
Our rabbits can escape from the garden (if someone leaves the gate open) and come back with one call for their pellets.
There is a balance of requirements to have rabbits in this way. If they are over-fed concentrates they will not likely develop a great re-call. If they are picked up and held a lot they are even less likely to come running.

In preparation for tomorrow 🥵☀️

🐇 Freeze water bottles 🧊 Rabbits (small animals) will lay next to them to cool down.

🐇 Have towels ready to dampen - your rabbits can also lay on these to cool down.

🐇 Make sure you have water spray bottles - you can mist your rabbits ears to help them cool down if they have over heated.

🐇 Give them access to tiled flooring or concrete areas (as long as shaded) to cool down.

Monday and Tuesday are going to be VERY hot 🥵 🐇🐇🐇🐇

Please - if you know anyone who has rabbits or guinea pigs in hutches tell them they could die in there! Hutches are like saunas in this heat.

You can freeze bottles of water 💦 🧊 and put them in your rabbits enclosures or in the their areas in the house so they can choose to lay next to them to cool down.

If their enclosure is not very shaded you can move them into the coolest room in the house temporarily.

This applies to all outdoor animals - if they don’t have shade, they need moving ☀️🌴

I saw this on Facebook Market Place and thought- it wouldn’t take much to convert this into a hutch. Just add a chicken pen at the front and you have a secure rabbit enclosure ✨🐇🐇✨

Children who are taught to respect that rabbits do not like to be picked up learn empathy and compassion for others. They develop a lovely relationship based on mutual respect and trust, which is what we want them to go out into the world as adults and do 💕

All relationships thrive on trust, deep understanding and mutual respect.
This is what all of our pets need.
For us to imagine what it would be like to be them, to respect who they are (for rabbits part of this is understanding they are a prey animal), and to change how we interact with them based on increased knowledge and understanding 💚

A rabbit’s fight, flight, freeze response is triggered when we try to chase and grab them to pick them up. There are other ways of spending time with them other than holding. They can be invited onto our laps with food and learn to trust being stroked.

There are so many ways we can adapt how we keep rabbits so that they are more enjoyable pets to have in our lives and so that their lives are much more enjoyable.

A trip down memory lane! These three went to lovely homes. The two giant crosses have a bungalow and large garden to romp around. Some of the videos they sent me of the binky’s and high speed laps of the garden were heart melting.
Rabbits are so intelligent and deserve so much more consideration than they often get.
They need plenty of space and stimulation 💚

Taming rabbits and guinea pigs takes a great deal of patience. If you place lots of their favourite food on your lap they will begin to associate coming on your lap as a pleasant experience.
Rabbits and guinea pigs do not like to be chased and grabbed. Earning their trust by sitting patiently takes time but the rewards are huge.
They begin to run to you like an excited puppy! Quite often rabbits and guinea pigs turn and run at the sight of a human.
There is another way to do things which is more rewarding for the animals and people 💚

I love this. So often Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and many other small animals aren’t given the same consideration because they are small.
Size does not determine importance. They feel in the same way, they are SUPER intelligent and deserve the upmost consideration. 💚
