I’ve been training dogs in Marbella and on the Costa del Sol since 2013. In 2015 I was fortunate enough to complete the training Cesar’s way course and was personally taught by Cesar Millan. I go by the Title of dog trainer but as any of my clients will tell you, I certainly put most of my focus on training you the human. I offer In-home consultations and training programs. In my experience, people need help in communicating with other species. It seems that with our modern lives we have forgotten how to work with mother nature. This is where I can help. dogs are simple, humans are complicated. I like to get to the root of the problem and bring it to the surface to truly fix dogs issues and more importantly, teach people how to maintain their dog’s balanced state. Whether we are teaching our dogs to sit, down, recall, place, heel, fetch or just be calm at home its important the human understands how their energy and body Language affects their dog’s behaviour. This is why I put a massive amount of emphasis on training dog owners into becoming handlers. Most of the time, people call me because they are experiencing issues with their dogs. I love working with all dogs. Dogs and puppies, issues or no issues I’m all about honoring the dog so we can bring the best out in them. I think one of the most important things in dog training is that it actually works! When I started my group classes and training pack walks at the beginning of this year, pretty much every dog was reactive or aggressive or had other issues. Now every one of those dogs is better! all coming to group class enjoying the time out with their dogs without the same stresses as before. These classes and walks are a great opportunity for you to train and socialize your dog in a real life situation and meet like-minded people.

Pulling stopped in one session with Winston. We are just about to start a 4 week training programme. Hope you enjoy this before and after video where I teach Winston’s owner how to get him walking nicely without pulling.

Winston’s owner had been to other trainers but I had more success because we didn’t spend a lot of time at all on the pulling but instead, spent time talking about dog psychology so his owner is in a much stronger position to be able to help Winston.

Huge difference in Kenza’s walking since her owner started to condition her to the figure of eight collar last week. Today, we took her for her first walk outside with the figure of eight. She walked with a loose leash all the way around the block🙂.

Kenza is 8 months old now and she’s doing so well in a lot of areas in her training. The one thing her owner still struggles with is her over excitement when out on a walk or when people come around to the house.

Today, we worked on Kenza’s place command in the kitchen. We did this without food because place command should be about relaxing a dogs state of mind and not bringing up excitement levels.

We also started to condition her to a figure of eight leash. Not only is this going to make the walking much better it also give her owner the ability to keep her head off the ground as Kenza had gotten into the bad habit of trying to scoff anything she could on the walk.

Tools like the figure of eight leash need to be conditioned properly. Kenza was much more relaxed about it than I was expecting her to be. I recommend contacting a professional if it’s something you think could help with your dog.

Really looking forward to hearing how she and her owner get on with this this week.

How to teach a puppy to take food gently? Not by saying “gentle!” 😉🐾

Hey guys! I think it’s important for people to know just how much work you need to put in and how many repetitions need to take place for commands to become reliable. It’s a lot! Nolly is doing quite well with his obedience. The main issue his owners are experiencing with him is too much mouthy play when he gets over-excited. It leads to him biting on arms, clothes and his leash. You see him almost go there with me in this session, but I corrected it quickly and effectively and we were able to move on. This is why I always have him on leash when we are training for now. It helps to correct and keep him calm enough to focus. Correcting unwanted behavior is as important as rewarding good behavior. You need to learn how to do both when you are training a dog. Both require skill and good timing so if you are unsure about how to do it, please consult a professional so they can show you how to properly.

Today, I taught Ruby how to do something I’ve never taught a dog before. Walk around the cone. I started by walking her up to the cone, luring her with the food around the cone whilst keeping myself stationary, and then saying “yes” (the marker word) as she went around the cone. As that became easier for her, I added the command to the actions she was doing and kept marking the behaviour. With a few more repetitions, I ended up not needing to lure her around the cone. Instead, she required very little direction and was mainly listening to the command I was giving her. I started to teach her this the same way I would teach any other command. Lure the dog into the position, mark and reward. When the Dog starts to do that with speed, it’s time to add in the command. 🙂

This morning, this 4-month-old Rottie learned to walk nicely on her new slip leash!

What’s the best thing you can do with a nervous/anxious dog.

Harnesses I made for pulling and tracking purposes. It’s to give the dog control, not you. A slip leash is a much better tool to use for this activity because it allows you to give the dog direction.
