Our Story

Thanks to my father, we’ve always had dogs in the family. As kids at home, we beagles and as the family dispersed due to adulthood and break-ups we all branched off with our own choice of breeds - my dad went on to own labradors of several colours and his fair share of springer spaniels. At his ripe old age of seventy-something he still has a black lab and two springers. My sister has owned a menagerie of terriers and lurchers. One lurcher was stolen a couple of years ago, which is an issue we’re still not allowed to mention to her as it’s too painful.

I too feel that pain. I’ve also had a few different breeds of dog in my lifetime, nearly all due to the dogs at the time needing urgent care or a home. I’ve owned a Rottweiler/Dobermann cross which has distemper and had to be nursed back to health and a Boxer which was found wandering the car park of the local hospital.

My last two dogs were the ones with me the longest and made a real impact to me. Ripley was a cross between a minature English Bull Terrier and a Staffordshire - she had the long ears but a short snout. I had Ripley from a pup, she was the runt of the litter but outlived the rest of them by a lifetime - she lived to be 17 years old. Sam was a pedigree Staffordshire Bull Terrier who came to me a few years later and lived to be 13. The loss of both of these dogs is still painful for me despite the years which have passed.

I miss the company of dogs but I can’t commit to owning another for various reasons. I started Petula Bark in the UK and had some great jobs, some people’s dogs really making a hole in my heart as I miss them terribly since moving to Ibiza.
