Trailer windows without some form of barrier can be a hazard. Do not ever trust that because your horse is very calm this could not happen to you. Better to be safe than sorry!

I guess we all identify with this...😭.If you are not yet doing so, consider using slow feeder hay nets, which besides many other benefits, prevent hay waste due to it being trampled, soiled or blown away by wind.

I find this very touching. Specially because for many horses this is still the sad reality. Good news is, YOU can do it differently. It's a lot easier than most people think. As soon as you stop doing things just because they always have been done this way and instead learn and implement science based horse management, you will be on your way to giving your horse the life it deserves. A real horse life!

Any eye anomaly in horses should always be treated as a veterinary emergency. The equine eye affected by trauma or disease can deteriorate extremely quickly and permanent damage is a real risk. Make sure you call your vet right away when detecting any eye problem!

Sleep deprivation in horses is a real thing. When a horse suffers sleep deprivation, we must examine not just the horse’s health, but also its environment, as some types of sleep deprivation are caused by environmental deficiencies/problems. As a general rule, a healthy adult horse needs as least 3-5 hours of sleep per 24-hour period. Stay tuned as in my next post I will explain how to detect whether your horse could be sleep deprived.

Do you know how mixed grazing can benefit your horse?
What is mixed grazing in the first place? Mixed grazing consists of allowing the same pasture to be grazed both by horses as well as other herbivores, generally ruminants such as cows or sheep. Mixed grazing can be done simultaneously or one after the other. (In the case of horned cows, such as the ones in the picture, grazing both species at different times is preferable).
The number one benefit to your horse: worm control!
Horses and ruminants do not share the same nematodes. Thanks to mixed grazing, the worm contamination of your pasture will be reduced. As a result, horses in mixed grazing will have a lower worm burden (in some studies reported as much as 50% less!) and the need for deworming will be reduced.
