I am importing a bloodhound puppy to Iceland on SUNDAY- the regulations and import rules are very strict and the procedure prior to import can be challenging to say the least. This is the second dog I import to Iceland in the last 12 months and I have been following other importers closely during this time. My previous video on HOW TO IMPORT A DOG TO ICELAND was a great success - now I want to stress the 10 MOST COMMON MISTAKES people are making when importing dogs to Iceland.

The import process is no joke - but life is full of funny moments. Instead of making a formal video lecture on this dry subject: "import rules" I asked the puppies Píla and Luna to join me.
Píla the bloodhound has given me some challenges during her stay - she is super clever, walks in and out as she pleases, steales stuff likes socks from the laundry and bananas & apples. She makes mess all the time and even assist my Doberman puppy Luna when she can´t reach for the things she wants. She´s a handful as you will see in this HILARIOUS compilation.

We made one wrong assumption in our process with the Bloodhound Píla and it set us back 30 days.
I made this video to help others from making these COMMON mistakes I hear people are doing. The importation process is expensive and one set back can make it even more costly - even force you to change travel plans.

My Doberman puppy Luna doesn´t know how to walk stairs properly and I think she´s afraid of heights, what can I do about it ?

I want to talk to you about teaching your puppy to walk up and down stairs, steps and ladders. Many of you might think that all dogs know how to walk stairs BUT YOU ARE WRONG THEY DON’T. Just like babies need to learn to walk safely through hindrance - puppies do to.

Dogs that arent used to walking up stairs dont necessarily do it right and they even might build up fright or insecurities about stairs if you don’t introduce it at early age. Remember my motto: Prevention is better than cure 👷‍♀️

This is an exercise I introduce to the puppy around week 12 as a game. I how ever have to take a few security measures 👷‍♀️ so he doesn’t hurt himself, get injured or get a bad experience. Walking stairs is a useful drill to make a stronger puppy and help him overcome being afraid of heights.

The reason WHY I find it important and want you to start it during early age is because it helps your puppy to use it’s hind legs, helps him to find balance, strengthens his back and legs, coordinate the use of all 4 legs and more importantly learns to listen to you and your way of communication.

Let me show you HOW I begin introducing stairs to my puppy LUNA, WHERE I begin and how the process evolves through time as she builds up better mobility skills.

LET´S GET YOUR DOGS OF THE FLOOR - let me tell you WHY I just bought my puppies an elevated bed.

This is a bit different video I just bought my puppies a new elevated bed to use outside, it´s called BEDSÜRE Comfy Pet and I´m going to show you how to assemble the bed. It looked like a puzzle in the beginning but was quite simple once I started.

The step-sisters have taken such a liking to the new BEDSÜRE elevated bed that they always enjoy the morning sun together on it as well as the afternoon siesta.
I´m not sure how long the bed will hold them both, 38 kg the bed holds and they are already almost 25 and 12 kg- maybe I´ll have to treat Pila the bloodhound Puppy with one too.

NEW VIDEO with updates on Píla the Bloodhound puppy. She has now been with me for 2 months and I´ve compiled some of her adorable videos into one.

Píla the bloodhound puppy has been with us now for 2 months, let me show you what we´ve been up to.

I am taking care of Pila until she is allowed to be imported to Iceland. She is a pure bred Bloodhound and in Iceland she´ll have a job in search and rescue as a trailing dog. I made this video to show you a glimpse in to Pílas adventures with me in Spain.

Píla is now 6 month old and we re using the time wisely to make her a strong and efficient mantrailer.. Her puppy training is similar to most puppies but without most of the obedience training other puppies go through. Her training is focused on the 3 fundamental pillars of puppy training: socialization, environmental training and puppy strength training.

In the video I go deeper in to what we do and how we train Píla and explain why we mostly skip the obedince part.

All this we are doing to build a strong and healthy search and rescue dog, using the time during her stay with me, as we are waiting for the import permit which is expected early 2021.

More importantly telling you how I spend the first days and weeks with my puppies to build a strong relationship and make my puppy a strong individual ready to face life's challenges.

a as well as bonding with him and introducing new environments are VERY important and has to be done in a calm and relaxed manner. Giving him time to absorb a lot of information through all his senses.

Playing with your dog is a fun and very energetic play. I use it to teach dogs

They learn to ask for a playtime, tug, let go, give in my palm, fetch, paw and a lot of other cool stuff. Having to give up your favorite all the time isn't any fun especially if it also means doing chores like sit, lay down or stay and wait and the most boring one being fooled by a pretend throw!!! So be sure if you want to teach your dog to give do it in a fun manner.

A fun game can teach a dog to enjoy interacting with you BUT ONLY if you leave out those boring obedience commands once in a while.

Really people how often do you ask your dog to sit and stay in an energetic game? It is A MOOD KILLER. Enjoy the game and relax on the commands. Enjoy your day and PLAY with your dog!!

A NEW PUPPY - A NEW VIDEO
Let me introduce to you the newest FAMILY MEMBER, a future rock star in the world of search and rescue in Iceland.

This bloodhound pup is only staying with me for the next 6 months and then she´s moving to Iceland to work with the Search & Rescue Team called Björgunarsveit Hafnarfjarðar which is the only rescue team in Iceland certified for man trailing and scent specific training.

I had to travel to Madrid to get the , she had been on the road traveling for days from Hungary to Madrid. With me she then traveled from to and here she´s going to get environmental training, puppy upbringing and some physical exercises suitable for puppies in the upcoming months.

Howling at the old guy... again! This time for eating the food she didn't want and for not wanting to play with her when she wanted to. It actually started with howling at my kids for not sharing their biscuits. Howling isn't getting her far, she still tries again and again.

NEW SMELL!! What is that? Curious taking the morning stroll.

When walking in a new area, discovering new scents the is in its elements. But boy did the containers smell horribly in the heat. 😩 How ever when you find a toy you soon forget the bad odor 😂

Remember: always be careful with cigarette buds, boxes and everything that contains or might contain ni****ne!! It is highly poisonous for dogs.

Day 4 and is checking everything in details, now it is the sofa. I personally don't want my dogs on the sofa or my bed, so I just waited while she explored a bit and then lured her down to the floor with a toy. I know she was looking for a pillow to run away with 😂.

I don't see a point in scolding her as she doesn't crawl on the furniture normally, just gave her a more fun option hoping that she won't be looking for fun toys there again. If she does we will repeat. That is what is all about redirect and repeat until you have an understanding.

Can't believe it but this just happened 😂😅 and we are only in day 4. Old Mr Grumpy didn't like it so it only lasted 15 seconds or so. 11 year old and a 4 months old sharing a bed is just too funny, one annoyed the other super happy.

Sensitive tummy? Very common for puppies to have diarrhea or sensitive stomach in the first few days even weeks upon arrival. This is why I recommend to not start giving new treats right after arrival, let the puppy settle and only use his food for treats.

Day 4 and We have been experiencing some ailments in the tummy so this morning we boiled some rice to sooth the bowles and get rid of excess water. This should cure her otherwise we'll visit the vet for some benign bacteria for her ❤️

Day 3, first environmental training session = Walking in rain and thunder storm. As this is heading to Iceland it will need to get used to be out working in the RAIN as it can rain a lot (!!!) on the island. So best get used to being outside the few days it's pouring down in Spain. Walking in the rain or just after is VERY interesting for ALL dogs as all environmental scents get stronger and more condensed. I recommend YOU take your dog out in the rain and give him time to SNIFF and explore.

Upon arrival, this is one happy with her newly arrived . Due to the pandemic her arrival from Hungary was postponed a few times, finally 3 weeks later she is here in with us. We will prep this young lady through her puppy hood to become a strong for the Icelandic Search & Rescue teams 💪 Our job is environmental training and basic puppy upbringing with emphasises on INDEPENDENCY because she will have to make some serious decisions in the FUTURE.

I have been working with Neo, 11 month old Boxer, and teaching him how to walk on the leash with me. We have spent a few sessions focusing only on this important ELEMENT: walking together, relaxed and happy, WITHOUT PULLING.

I will show you step by step how I train him, from first day.

Leash training, pulling the leash and choosing between a collar or a harness is my next topic. I am working with my new BEST friend Neo, who is barely 1 year old. He is a boxer so already both big and strong. We used this last week for leash training and environmental training and I am going to show you our progress in my newest video I am publishing tomorrow.

Not sure which one is happier or more sweaty 💦but the morning session went super well!! We did leash work, environmental training, relax work in unknown areas, played fetch, obedience: sit, stay and wait, lay down, lay on side and stand up... plus we met another dog. Very efficient morning with Neo which we also managed to record for a new video 😎🌞

WHY I find cages useful and WHY I encourage dog owners to use them and I will guide you on WHICH cage to choose and HOW to know the correct SIZE.

A cage is very useful and convenient for dog owners: it keeps the animal safe during travels, it gives him a safe place at home, it can even minimize the dog hair on the floor or in your car and very often the cage is his preferred resting spot ... IF it is introduced, trained and used properly!!
