As we are in lock down we have to make sure our fur babies are keeping well and we are not over feeding,as we can not exercise as much as we would like,I hope this helps stay safe
As dogs are omnivores, you can give them certain vegetables which are a great way to add extra nutrients to their diet. Although you shouldn't replace their regular dog food entirely with vegetables, they do make a great snack!
Here are 7 vegetables that are good additions to your doggie's diet:
1. Carrots
Carrots are low in calories, high in fibre, and an excellent source of vitamin A and potassium. You can share plain, cooked carrots by adding them to your dog’s usual bowl of food, or share raw carrots periodically as a snack.
2. Pumpkin
Pumpkin is high in fibre and does wonders for your dog's digestion. It’s rich in fatty acids, which are good for their skin and coat. Pumpkin also contains beta-carotene, antioxidants, and tons of healthy minerals. Just be sure to give them tinned pumpkin (not sweetened, spiced or raw!).
3. Peppers
Peppers are rich in vitamins A, E, B6, and lutein and are great sources of vitamin C and beta-carotene, which are antioxidants important for a dog’s healthy immune system, skin coat and eye health.
4. Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are a healthier option than white potatoes because they are much more nutritious. They contain vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and iron, among other nutrients. However, you must make sure they are cooked thoroughly and without added seasonings or flavourings before giving them to your beloved pooch.
5. Cucumbers
These make a great, crunchy snack for dogs! Due to their low calorie content they are a treat that doesn't put on the pounds, so make a great reward for dogs to stay a healthy weight. Due to their high water content they also help relieve dehydration, especially useful on a hot day.
6. Brussel sprouts
Brussels sprouts are loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that are great for humans and dogs, alike. Don’t overfeed them to your dog, however, because they can cause lots of gas. Cabbage is also safe for dogs, but comes with the same gassy warning!
7. Peas
Green peas are a healthy treat for your dog as they are high in vitamin A, vitamin K, and several B vitamins. Peas are also a great source of fiber, iron, zinc, potassium, and magnesium. These vitamins and minerals are good for your dog’s vision, skin, digestion, immune system, nerves, heart, and more. Although if your dog has kidney issues, try to avoid peas as they contain substances that can cause irritation!
