African Swine Fever Preparedness Course for the Caribbean

Applications for self-registration are extended to July 1st 2022

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Caribbean Animal and Veterinary Public Health Network (CaribVET), are pleased to announce a new edition of the African Swine Fever (ASF) course to be delivered through the FAO Virtual Learning Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Course (English version only) will start on 28 June 2022 with an opening webinar, run for four weeks and close on 23 July 2022 with a closing webinar.

Participants registering for the course should be :

Located in the Caribbean region
Vets or Paravets involved in the investigation or control of ASF outbreaks OR
Vets of paravets working in the central veterinary services or laboratories.
Able to communicate effectively in English.
Motivated to complete a 15 hour online course spread over a four-week period.

NB : Applications for self-registration will close on 25 June 2022, or once the maximum course capacity is reached

CaribVET wishes to share this update on the African Swine Fever (ASF) situation in the Caribbean region. This news is a follow up on the ASF crisis in the Caribbean that started in July in the Dominican Republic and mid-September in Haiti.

The regional situation regarding ASFv is still worrying. Despite lots of efforts to control the disease done in Dominican Republic ASF is still present in the country.

The Caribbean Animal Health Network (CaribVET) is a collaborative research and development network involving veterinary services, universities, research institutes, and regional / international organizations in agriculture and health, to improve animal and veterinary public health in all the 34 countries and/or territories Members of the network.

It aims at improving the regional sanitary situation and to contribute to the harmonization and reinforcement of disease surveillance and control, early warning, preparedness and disaster risk reduction in the Caribbean in order to promote commercial exchanges and health.
