Last day for orders containing LIVE GOODS will going out will be Tuesday 19th December so get your orders on before 12pm on Tuesday for same day dispatch.

Good morning all! Happy Sunday!

Just wanted to put some feelers out on here before I commit to anything.

We forage weekly for supplies used in our invert / reptile enclosures, we understand that not everyone has the time to do this or it is not geographically possible to access an abundance of natural supplies for your critters.

One of the supplies we gather are lichen covered sticks and branches. We use these for a wide variety of animals, though these are a favorite of all of our isopods and millipedes as a food source. They also look fantastic in display set ups for that true natural forest look.

Been asked about this a bunch of times recently, so thought it was about time to reshare.

Had a few people ask over the past couple of weeks what substrate we use for isopods.

When we first started keeping pods, we used ready-made 'Isopod / millipede' soil mix. This worked pretty well, though it got quite costly as we started to grow our collection. From then, we have been making our own. Through trial and error, we found a perfect mix for us.

We have found the key to the most successful mix is moisture, nutrition and aeration.

Our current 'base mix' is made from:

▪️100% organic top soil
▪️Worm castings
▪️Bat guano
▪️Horticultural charcoal
▪️Flake soil
▪️Beech and oak leaf litter
▪️Sphagnum moss
▪️Decaying hardwood fibres
▪️Shredded white rotten wood

This mix works very well for most species, then can be adapted slightly for species that have particular requirements.

As always, we are happy to share our knowledge if we can.

We may put a few small 1 - 3 Litre sample bags of the base substrate on our website for people to try in the future if there is any interest in trying this.
