Aquatic Treadmill Therapy for small animals
I have completed training at Hawksmoor hydrotherapy centre and it is here I gained ABC Level 3 in Hydrotherapy for Small Animals to enable myself to treat patients. I have also completed the additional aquatic treadmill therapy unit and completed CPD hours on an aquatic treadmill at Canine Therapies whilst also gaining vital hands on experience.
I am due to complete advanced anatomy and physiology and behaviour units before the end of the year to achieve the Diploma. I am also keen to complete other specific units including advanced aquatic treadmill techniques, stifle and hip and elbow dysplasia.
I am currently gaining essential hands on experience in various centres, gaining knowledge with various conditions and equipment. I am extremely keen to progress further and keep up with new techniques and treatments. I am happy to attend career development days, complete CPD hours to maintain registration and due to attend the Hawksmoor congress 2018 and various webinars over the coming months.
I am a registered member of CHA and also interested in membership with BVA and AHPR.
I am additionally completing a level 2 course for veterinary nursing assistants for personal progression. You can be assured all animals receiving treatment will have the best and most safe and qualified care.
Even though I have not been a therapist for long I have had many years of previous experience of the canine anatomy, physiology and behaviour. I have also been fortunate to experience a wide range of conditions and provide treatment within a pool and aquatic treadmill within this short time.
Including conditions such as: Arthritis, Hip dysplasia, Cruciate ligament rupture, Patella luxation, Elbow dysplasia, Degenerative myelopathy, Intervertebral disc rupture (slipped disc), Spondylosis, Mobility problems related to age or obesity, Young active dogs on restricted exercise.
I have always had an interest in dogs from a very early age and had family dog throughout my life. I gained my first job after years of pestering at my local boarding kennels for summer work at 14 which then progressed to employment after leaving school. I began handling a variety of dogs at a young age, all of various shapes, sizes, behaviours and temperaments, including boarders, rescue and re-homing cases and also seized dangerous dogs.
I spent a few years working within a larger boarding kennels, also helping out with grooming and residential dog training. I have gained almost 15years of working with dogs and experienced many different behavioural issues and traits.
I then progressed into veterinary practises. I began working night shifts doing the emergency out of hour shifts and moved onto working within a very busy veterinary practise full time in 2012. This gave me the opportunity to have a very hands on role which was extremely rewarding, also assisting with many of the conditions I am now treating within Hydrotherapy.
I was introduced to hydrotherapy when my own Jack Russell terrier required hydrotherapy sessions after undergoing cruciate ligament surgery. The improvements and enjoyment my dog gained from her sessions influenced my decision to train to become a hydrotherapist and gain the same results for others.
I have personal transport and would be willing to travel. I hold my own public liability insurance and happy to follow individual health and safety procedures. I would be happy to cover holidays, sick cover or training days etc.
