Important Notice: Annual Break at Dougal’s Doggy Digs

Just a heads up to all our valued clients!

Dougal’s Doggy Digs will be closed from the 25th of November until the 10th of December for our annual break. Daycare services will resume on the 10th of December, and boarding will be available again from the 15th of December.

🐶 Not All Puppies & Rainbows 🌈

Being responsible for your fur friends is a responsibility I take very seriously, and sometimes it’s bloody tough.

Dogs, like us, can get ill and have accidents. Whether it's a problem they're born with, a breed-specific disease, an injury from playing, or a bug they catch, I try my best to be knowledgeable and react as soon as needed.

The last week has been a tough one with a poorly pooch. We've had visits to our usual vet, Cheshire Pet Vets, then transferred to the emergency vet for overnight monitoring, back to our own vet at 7:30 AM, and then to a specialist vet on Friday evening. Finally, we brought him back from Runcorn this evening.

Since last Wednesday, it’s been very early starts and long, 16-hour days to ensure the best care. I’m very lucky to have a great relationship with my vets at Cheshire Pet Vets, who on Friday referred him to the specialists at North West Vets. I’ve never been to North West Specialist Vets before, but wow, what a setup and fabulous friendly staff. Huge thanks to Helen, Laura, and Nastassja for all their work this week.

Said little pooch, we now think, has a syndrome that is seen in the breed and is on treatment that we hope he responds to.

This experience has also reinforced the importance of having pet insurance. Treatments can be incredibly expensive, and having insurance ensures that your furry friend gets the best possible care without the added stress of financial worries.

The following email has been sent out this week for anyone with boarding over the coming months. Please don't ignore as if all the information is not up to date we will be unable to look after your dog for the period of their boarding and you will. still be charged.

Dear Dougal's family,

We hope you and your furry friend are excited for their stay with us this summer at Dougal’s. As your dog's visit approaches, we want to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Please take a moment to review the important information below and ensure all details are up to date on your account.

Summer Clients Checklist:

1. Booking Dates and Times:
Are your drop-off and pick-up dates and times correct on your booking?
Drop-off times: (Mornings only) 8am - 10am, Monday to Saturday.
Pick-up times: 8am - 10am, or 4pm - 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
If someone else is dropping off or picking up your dog, please make sure they are aware of these times.

2. Vaccination Records:
Ensure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date on our system with an image proof uploaded. (Please see the link below for instructions on how to do this).

3. Flea and Worm Treatments:
Update the date of the last treatment and the brand/product used on your account. (Please see the link below with instructions on how to do this).

4. Contact and Vet Details:
Verify that all your contact information and vet details are current. This is crucial in case of an emergency.

5. Medication and Medical History:
Notify us in advance if your dog is on any medication or has any new medical history that needs to be added to their notes.

6. Collar and ID Tag:
Ensure your dog wears a collar with an ID tag at all times during their stay.

7. Food Supply:
Bring enough food for your dog's stay in a secure container (no plastic bags).
Please avoid home-cooked meals that require freezing or special storage.
Provide a scoop with clear feeding instructions.
Note: We do not cater to raw food diets.

8. Payment:
Ensure all bills are settled prior to collection. Payments can be made via the online payment link, BACS, or cash.

9. Additional Items:
Only bring your dog’s food; we provide bowls, bedding, and toys.
You may add treats to the treat tin (we provide Bonios and meaty strips, which are available at Tesco, Asda, etc.).

10. Sustainability:
Please be mindful of packaging. We prefer to avoid single-use plastics and non-recyclable materials.

☀️ With Summer holiday and warm weather (hopefully) around the corner, please make sure you are well prepared for what you may encounter!

🐞 If you are taking your dog on holiday, especially to Scotland or Wales, please make sure your dog is covered for ticks. Ticks can be very small and grow as they feed off your dog (once they feed, they will look like the picture below). They are often mistaken as a fast growing lump!

🐞 Ticks can carry Lyme disease which is a zoonotic disease (disease that can be transferred between human and animals). This disease can be debilitating to your pet and yourself! Different tick species can carry different diseases.

🐞 Have a good check over of your dog after walks especially after going through long grass and woods. If you have found a tick, remove it gently using a tick remover as you need to make sure their biting mouth part is fully removed. If you do not have a tick remover with you, take your dog to a nearby vet.

🐞 If your dog has developed a reaction to the tick bite, book them in for a check with a vet! If you have been bitten, ring your GP.

🐞 Your dog should be protected against ticks if they are using these products: Bravecto, Simparica, Canitrio, Nexgard spectra, Seresto collar. Other products may cover for ticks too. Check your current parasite treatment if you are unsure. Please note Advocate spot on doesn’t cover for ticks so you may need to swap products if you are going to an area with high tick population.

Thanks for all the volunteers for our trial session. We have picked the dogs for practicing techniques for the colour shoots. And we will get in touch with a day to suit. Once we have had a wee practice we will then schedule a weekend for you all to book your sessions.
