Breacan does toy recognition this evening
These games are taught in layers as is all training. Layer 1 is picking something up, then layer 2 consists of picking something up and giving to me, layer 3 picking up and bringing to me, layer 4 picking up and dropping into a box at my side, layer 5 I begin to gradually move myself away from the box. Taking it to the level here, I name the toys he plays with, play fetch with a named toy, then add another name toy and so on. It's all fun but also provides mental stimulation for the dog, which helps focus, bonding and on a wet, or snowy night, tires them out, much better than going for a walk.
Dark evenings can be really boring for dogs, so a bit of fun going here. Who is interested in trick training?
I'm popping in on this little guy over the next 3 weeks during the daytime. I just love the little training sessions we are having. He's one extremely bright cookie.
Getting mine ready for fireworks night. However note that weeks of preparation have already gone in to bringing her up to this volume. She was scared at first, so I spent time playing the sounds at a very low volume, whilst she was eating dinner, or whilst playing with Breacan, or playing with me, so building positive experiences around the sound. Over the weeks I gradually increased the volume, whilst continuing to do the same, until she reached this level. For her it's taken about 3 weeks to get to this stage.
For those already very afraid of fireworks it could take longer. Its a bit late now, but next year, consider using Calm Canis Happy Chews along with your training preparations, which ideally should commence around the middle of the year. Happy Chews are totally natural but take a good 4-6 weeks to build up, and then the training can commence say late August. This combined with the Happy Chews really helps make a difference to many.
We are not just about teaching sit, stay, come, but real life training. Today we went to Cafe Pafilion. When we arrived the sun was shining so we sat out on the benches, and everyone was learning to settle. However, the rain suddenly came down just at the wrong moment in time, and the younger one's found being inside just a bit too overwhelming. That comes in time. Here young Uno is relaxed enough to do some learning on the inside. He was also really good outside, in the park, off leash, and yes he's a hound with a pretty good recall already, which shows it can be done, even when you are a hound. He loves his toys more than he loves his food 😁
This morning these nomnoms had arrived when we came back from our crazy gallops, making up for the past week with very little gallops. These biscuits came from The Rainforester
Today is DMT day, Distract, Mark, Treat
