MOLLY 💚 available for adoption
Passport age 5 yrs but possibly older.
Small to small medium
Spayed, vaccinated, blood tested and microchipped.
Dog and cat🐈friendly

Peaceful quiet little twinkle toes Molly.
Needs somewhere peaceful so she can work on her confidence and accept the world and all the good fun it could offer her again.
She follows our little girl around in the garden but is also peeling away to explore and find sunny spots herself. She likes sleeping, belly rubs, being cosy, loves a snuggly blanket. She is treasuring downtime right now to find her feet again.
Car journey for her is a little stressful and ahe shakes..however we went for little drive and sat in the back of our van for coffee and icecream and she just chilled and went to sleep for an hour. So she settles and seems to be accepting of how it is.
She didn't want to walk yesterday away from the van and is getting used to the harness amd lead. She isn't fussing about anything, sleeps all night on our bed. She's toilet trained.
Our resident dog Tatty has tried to get her to play, she's not yet ready but you can see its in there 😊
This lovely sweet timid quiet little lady needs someone who will just be happy to have her there by their side and enjoy her company. She just needs the world to stop for a minute to let her catch up 💚

⭐️ Patient Spotlight: Delta ⭐️

Delta is a 3-year-old German Shepherd who came to us at the beginning of November 2024 after having Bilateral Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture and having surgeries on both. He had both surgeries 6 months apart with his right hind being done first.

The cranial cruciate ligament is the same as the anterior cruciate ligament in humans and is a band of fibrous tissues that attach the tibia and femur together stopping weight shifting forward. It also helps reduce the knee (stifle) from rotating or over extending. This type of injury usually occurs from slow degeneration and not caused from physical trauma as much.

Delta has a 2cm imbalance in the hind limbs with the left hind being smaller. Delta also had a 1cm imbalance in his forelimbs with the right forelimb being smaller.

Delta has completed his 12 sessions in the underwater treadmill to target his specific muscles as well as correct his gait and improve his joint range of movement post-surgery. Over time we have seen an increase in Delta’s strength dramatically as he is now able to pull through the water comfortably and equally. He has gained 3.5cm on his left hind and gained 1.5cm on his right hind making him now balanced in his hind limbs. He also has gained 2cm on his right forelimb and gained 1cm on his left forelimb making him balanced on these limbs too. Delta has also lost some weight since coming to us as he unfortunately gained some weight due to the restricted exercise he had to have after his surgeries.

We have suggested that Delta comes for hydrotherapy fortnightly to slow the progression of osteoarthritis from forming and to maintain muscle strength and conditioning with hopes to space out his sessions even further in the future.

Well done Delta!

We would like to welcome Laura Cole a Veterinary Physiotherapist that works closely alongside Top Dog Canine Hydrotherapy. She already treats a lot of the current dogs at Top Dog Canine Hydrotherapy so this may not be a new face for you to meet!

Hydrotherapy and Physiotherapy treatments both help each other and at times it is necessary for patients to receive both physiotherapy and hydrotherapy treatment for multiple reasons. All patients will orthopaedic and neurological conditions will benefit from having physiotherapy and hydrotherapy alongside each other. Physiotherapy can also be great for fitness dogs as this can help with strength and conditioning.

Hydrotherapy can not always commence till they are x weeks clear from surgery. Physiotherapy is the perfect option in making sure your dog starts to weight bear correctly and maintain good joint range of movement from the very start. This helps reduce compensatory patterns and gives you a head start within your rehabilitation journey.

Laura works on a range of musculoskeletal problems and neurological issues with manual techniques which allows our hydrotherapists to gain a more correct gait pattern. The combination of this multi-disciplinary team helps ensure that every patient has the best treatment plan to suit their needs.

Both therapies can be adapted to suit you and your dog’s needs, commitment and lifestyle. We would however recommend that you have physiotherapy and hydrotherapy at least a day apart. Over the next couple of months, we will feature some case studies that have received both physiotherapy and hydrotherapy alongside each other.

🌟 Patient spotlight: Holly!🌟

Holly started hydrotherapy on the 16th of November 2024 when she was diagnosed with Suspected Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Disease. Back in April Holly lost functioning of her back legs getting into the car and was prescribed crate rest, but this did not work. She initially started treatment with Laura Cole from Paddock and Paws and was eventually signed off to start hydrotherapy.

On her first session she had a big imbalance of 2cm in her hind limbs with her right hind being smaller. She also had an imbalance of 2cm in the forelimbs. Over time we have gradually increased Holly’s programme in the UWTM and assisted her range of movement to increase her muscle mass and correct her gait patterning. She is now only 0.5cm imbalanced in her forelimbs and hindlimbs and gained muscle mass to all her limbs.

From Paddock & Paws Veterinary Physiotherapy:

Holly has been receiving physiotherapy treatment since June 2024 after suffering from a suspected IVDD episode. On her initial assessment Holly was very weak through her right pelvic limb, this resulted in her intermittently collapsing through the leg and the paw knuckling. Muscle atrophy was also present through the right hind. At a stance Holly was shifting her weight to the front, and toe touching at times in the right hind. Over time Holly has been doing remedial exercises to help improve her balance and weight bearing whilst also helping to target the atrophied muscles. Holly is very selective on what exercises she will willingly do so we have had to work within her limits.

Holly has shown significant improvement, she has a better flight arc (how the leg picks up from the floor) and is no longer paw knuckling. Holly has also stopped collapsing through the right hind. Our aims of improving Holly’s balance and proprioception have enabled Holly to regain her mobility and strength again. Once we were happy with this she started hydrotherapy to help kick start muscle building.

Holly is an excellent example of the benefits of a combination of hydrotherapy and physiotherapy! Well done Holly and family for all of your hard work!🤩
