The Dogs Trust National Dog Survey results are in!

It has revealed the nations most popular breed is the Labrador Retriever, with an estimated 1,012,500 in the UK! In second place was the Cocker Spaniel, followed by the Border Collie in third place.

We are thrilled to share that a new UK law has been introduced, which means pet thieves can be jailed for up to five years! This is a major victory for all of us who believe our furry friends are family, not just property. 🐶🐱

Pet theft is a heart-wrenching crime that causes immense pain to both pets and their owners. With this new legislation, there is hope for stronger protection and justice for our beloved companions.

🐾🎓 The Queen’s University Belfast has become the first in the UK to recognise the role of pets in education. 🐱📚🐶

Some 25 animals took part in a special graduation ceremony, including dogs, cats and a hamster who took to the red carpet for the informal ceremony at the university on Tuesday night, accepting an honorary “dog-torate cat-ificate”. 😆

They were recognised for their role in supporting their humans through their time at Queen’s.

The university said research has shown that time spent with pets can improve concentration levels and lower stress, two things that are particularly important when studying.

☀️ As the summer heat continues, it's crucial to recognise the signs of heatstroke in our furry friends. Watch out for these symptoms to ensure your pet's safety:

1. Excessive Panting: Heavy and rapid breathing is a key indicator.
2. Drooling: More than usual, accompanied by a thick, sticky saliva.
3. Lethargy: Unusual tiredness or weakness.
4. Vomiting & Diarrhoea: Can be signs of overheating.
5. Red or Pale Gums: Indicate poor circulation.
6. Uncoordinated Movements: Stumbling or staggering.
7. Collapse or Seizures: In severe cases.

If you notice any of these signs, act quickly! Move your pet to a cooler area, offer water, and contact your vet immediately.

From today, (10th June 2024), the new law means that cats must be microchipped before they reach the age of 20 weeks.

You must also ensure you register them on a DEFRA-approved microchipping database.

If you miss today's deadline, the new law states you'll have 21 days to have your cat microchipped, or you may face a fine of up to £500.

By microchipping their cats, owners can increase the likelihood that they will be reunited with their beloved pet if they go missing.
