Summer living in full swing at Alders 😎 We have divided our land in order to have natural water access in each of our fields- mainly for drinking, although some of our water-loving residents also enjoy the odd splash session 💦🐴

Well, we've all survived and thrived through our first winter at Alders and now the ground has properly dried up, it really feels like summer is on the way again 🌞
The horses have been enjoying the summer fields for a few weeks now, and we're giving the winter grazing some deserved TLC.
We are currently full, but welcome enquiries for the waiting list.

It's been a busy summer here, whilst the horses have been relaxing and eating (our grass has remained green despite the drought) the humans haven't stopped! Our main jobs have been fencing and haymaking. We have a barn full of organic homemade meadow hay waiting for winter, and can now set a fence post with deadly accuracy 🎯 😆

Farriery day at Alders. Here's Queenie being a good girl (modelling her custom made mask as she suffers from sunburn), with Spring and King watching to make sure he's doing a good job! Our farrier comes into the field to do the trims, and with the arthritic horses is careful to only flex their joints the minimum amount needed to get the job done well.

The herd have moved fields this week, after egg counts and worming where needed. They have some fresh new grass, plus a wooded area to explore with the brook running through it for drinking and splashing!

We're currently full, with 12 lovely horses (one donkey!) enjoying a leisurely herd life at Alders. However, we're busy improving boundaries in order to make more of the beautifully varied land safe to graze, so that we can take a second herd in late summer. We already have names on a waiting list, so get in touch if you think your horse would like to have a peaceful enriched retirement with us.

The beautiful Arrow joined us a few weeks ago, and settled very easily into the thick of the herd for her summer holidays, if there's anything going on, she's there!
We also have the pleasure of welcoming gentle giant Jane here for her retirement, and Hank the yearling for a couple of years of growing and learning from his elders. Jane instantly took young Hank under her wing and they have been inseparable since ❤️

Hello!

We are a new family run business based just outside Ashbourne, Derbyshire, offering a very special home to horses for their retirement years, or during periods of rest and recuperation.

We have 60 acres of beautiful, dry pastureland allowing all year 24/7 herd turnout. It features natural water sources, gentle hills, wooded areas and plentiful natural shelter. Horses are thoroughly checked daily, and there is always someone on-site. The herd is managed and overseen by a Veterinary Surgeon, so your horse is in knowledgeable hands.

What we offer at Alders:

24/7 year-round turnout on natural established grassland – better joint, respiratory, gut and mental health compared with stabling, especially for older horses
Routine healthcare included: farrier trims, vaccination and worming programs (egg counts, and worming where necessary), annual teeth check and routine rasp – we look after all routine care for your horse
Treatment of minor wounds/ailments
Excellent grazing, with included supplementary forage provided if required
Facility to bring into barns in groups in case of extreme weather
Daily checks by experienced horse-people
Owner visits most welcome – bring a picnic in Summer!

£250 pcm per horse/pony, including costs of all routine healthcare
