National Animal Welfare Trust Bedfordshire

National Animal Welfare Trust Bedfordshire NAWT Bedfordshire (formerly HULA Animal Rescue) has been helping pets and their owners since 1972. We also have a foster and rehome 'home to home' scheme.

This year, in our 50th year of operation, we are embarking on our largest ever project to redevelop our animal accommodation for homeless pets. National Animal Welfare Trust Bedfordshire (Supporting HULA Animal Rescue) is a small animal adoption centre on the border of Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. We're based in Aspley guise and rescue dogs, cats and small animals who are needing new homes or

who are in vulnerable situations. Whilst with us they are provided with all the care they need - and a lot of cuddles too of course! During the time they are with us we assess them and start to look for the most appropriate and suitable home for them. We are a non profit organisation and have been serving the local community since the early 70s. Our fundraising is vital for us to continue the work that we do. To help us continue to offer shelter to homeless pets for the next 50 years and beyond, please support our redevelopment project: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/savenawtbedfordshire

They did it. 10 hours. 40km. 1,541m climbed. This was the “hardest walk of their life”. They’re hot, sweaty, aching and exhausted. And hopefully now enjoying a pint somewhere.

They put themselves through this to raise money for our rescue and rehoming centre. Approximately 30-40 animals are rehomed from our small but busy centre each month. Vet bills can reach several thousand a month. Animals can arrive at the centre scared, malnourished, or poorly treated, or simply find themselves in need of a new home. Either way each and every animal is given such incredible care by all the team - including Carley and Rosie - which of course, costs money.

If you can help congratulate these two with a donation - however small - you’re making a difference to many many animals in need who walk through our doors every week.

Peak 2 - it’s in the bag! They’re doing so well, but they’re tired and getting sore now. We’re pleased the sun is out for them and the views are a bit better, but they’ve still got a long way to go. We’re keeping them updated with their fundraising totals and it’s really keeping them going, so please please, if you’ve been thinking of donating, now’s the time!

They’ve completed Peak 1! Your donations are giving them such a boost, we are all so grateful. They’ve got a long way to go and many hours ahead of them, so please continue your support!

We are of course, just joking. Luckily for us, our manager is pretty awesome and it turns out awesome people climb mountains for charity!
Carley is no stranger to a mountain hike and does crazy things like this for fun anyway, but even this one is going to be a challenge for her!

“I love a challenge – you sort of have to working in rescue, as a lot of the animals we meet bring their own challenges – and I’m excited about this one. It’s going to be hard, we’re anticipating 12 hours of difficult walking on tough terrain, but if we can raise a decent amount of money it will all be worth it!”

Please please consider donating what you can to their challenge. All funds raised come directly to our centre to help us continue to care for the animals that need us

NAWT Bedfordshire’s Carley and Rosie are embarking on a challenging 26-mile trek, tackling the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales. Their goal is to complete this formidable journey within 12 hours to raise funds for the centre.

Last Night we introduced you to Rosie, one of the team bravely tackling the 3 peaks challenges for NAWT Beds... so next up, let us introduce you to Carley!

As the manager of the centre, all the team voted to send her up a mountain, she had no say in the matter. The End.

We’ll keep you updated with their training as the date gets closer, but their just giving page is open NOW! Please consider donating to their brutal challenge, by donating to their Just Giving Page.

Our volunteers are absolutely integral to the work we do. From walking dogs, to holding tombolas, from feeding cats to representing NAWT at community groups and schools they do it all. There's also a whole heap of ways people can get involved that you probably haven't even thought of! Some of them from the comfort of your own home!
If you'd like to know more about volunteering, we're holding a volunteer coffee morning on Monday at our centre in Aspley Guise where you can see the centre, meet some of the team and chat to our current volunteers and find out how you could get involved!

*We also know that for some people who may be interested in volunteering, meeting a bunch of new people can be intimidating and daunting. If you'd like to know more, but would rather not attend a social event we would absolutely still love to hear from you. We are happy to chat to you via email, phone, or a 1 on 1 chat at the centre at another time. Some of our volunteers are not 'people people' either, so don't worry. We get it. There's room for everyone. Feel free to email us on [email protected] for more info.
