❗️ Heat stroke warning

With temperatures soaring, please be aware of the signs of heat stroke in dogs – thank you to our friends at Now for this handy temperature warning. Our furry friends can really struggle in the heat, so it is vital we keep them cool in these extreme temperatures 🐕

🐶 Walk in the early morning or later in the evening when it is cooler
💧 Always provide plenty of water
😎 Access to cool and shady areas
❌ Never ever leave your dog in a parked car on a sunny day
☀️ Watch out for the signs of heat stroke and seek veterinary care immediately if you are concerned

If you are due to attend a donation session with us this week, please be mindful of travelling with your dog in the heat. Keep them in an air conditioned car where possible and provide plenty of water. We will continue to review the situation and will ensure we are only running donation sessions if it is safe to do so. As always, the welfare of your dog is our top priority.

There has been a lot of "advice" floating about regarding giving your dog ice cubes due to the hot weather...

If your pup is suffering from heat stroke, DO NOT give them ice cubes (or a wrap them in a wet towel), but get them to the vet IMMEDIATELY.

If your pup is healthy, ice cubes are fine and a great treat! Of course keep an eye on them as there is a risk of choking.

Blue Cross have confirmed this advice! 🐶

ps. be very careful with wet towels for longer than 5 minutes, after that they can trap the heat in and make your pup worse. Always contact your vet first with any concerns.

Today is . Sadly Parker never got to meet my piggies but I think he would have loved them! I miss them so much, it took me 6 months+ to get over the loss of my girl Caggy (the tricolour), and I really hope I can have more again one day. I'd love to have a proper herd so I need to wait until I get the space first!

We are struggling with the heat at the moment as I generally don't walk Parker when its above 20° as its hot, the pavement may hurt his paws and with no off button if he finds a ball (which he has a special skill for) its game over.

He's being a very patient and good boy so i took him out at 2am, it was still 20° 🥵

Trying to find enrichment that doesn't wear him out and make him panty is tough! Frozen licky mats are a winner for us 👅

I just spread some Tesco cream cheese, pop it in the freezer and its ready. One happy pup! 🐶
