🐶✅ TOP TIPS PRE-ADOPTION✅🐶
These may seem very obvious but please ensure you have read before offering any of our dogs a home:
❇️ If Living in rented accommodation ensure you have your landlords permission
❇️ If you share a home with others ensure the dog you are interested in will fit in with all members of the family AND regular visitors such as nieces/nephews/grandchildren. Likewise ensure you have everyone in the households permission.
❇️Breed research - have you researched the breed? It’s energy levels? It’s needs? And what medical conditions it is prone to? There are beautiful breeds out there that are wonderful to own but without research you can be easily mislead. For example: photos of a smaller breed relaxing in a home may not demonstrate its high energy levels and exercise needs.
❇️Financial commitment -
Unfortunately there is no free doggy healthcare.
-All dogs - regular boosters and medical treatments
-Puppies- first two sets of vaccines will be required along with frequent and regular worm and flea treatments. Puppies are also fed on higher protein ‘puppy’ food which is usually more expensive than adult food
-Specific breeds- may have additional medical requirements and also food requirements. Some large and ‘giant’ breeds cost a lot to feed daily to keep them at a healthy weight.
❇️ Time- Do you have the commitment and dedication of giving up your time?
-Adult dogs- take LOTS of time to settle in a new home. You can have a perfectly trained dog who is settled in its own home environment but in new surroundings this may all go out the window. It takes a lot of time to learn their ways, have them accepted with your own existing pets and time for them to meet, get to know and trust everyone.
-Puppies- I think this heading speaks for itself...LOTS of time training and training to understand EVERYTHING, if you do not take the time then you have an untrained dog who more than likely develop negative behaviour traits.l which are more difficult to correct later on.
Bottom line is please act responsibly and with common sense if thinking of adopting a dog. We really want all dogs adopted to live happy lives in their new forever families and while there are genuine occasions where it doesn’t work out through no ones fault we have to recognise that most often when dogs are brought back to our care it is due to one of the above factors.
If all goes well we will complete the paperwork and the dog will go home with you on the day (please bring photo ID)
We operate a 72hr policy with all the dogs as we don’t know any background in most cases. While there is no way a dog will be settled in its new home in the first three days it is in place in the case of any serious medical or temperament issues such as the dog becoming unwell or showing aggression.
Please be 100% committed to settling the dog into your home, if any any doubt please do not go ahead with rehoming, thank-you.
