A stunning hunters moon to start the day and a lovely carpet of autumn leaves. Sadly, it looks like Storm Ashley will take the last of the leaves down this weekend, but it might also mean less work for Robin and his leaf blower!

A fantastic and very sociable end to the show season at Horse and Country - Equine this weekend with West Lodge McNair thoroughly enjoying his first experience indoors under saddle.

We are extremely proud of all our ponies this season. It’s been a year of firsts for many of them and they have all done us proud 🩷🫶🏻

Thank you to Kayleigh Rose Evans and the rest of the Cottown Team for taking such good care of West Lodge McNair and giving him such a good start to his ridden career.

Thanks to everyone involved in putting on such an enjoyable show 🥂🏆🥂

Home from a very enjoyable time away supporting Black Isle and Perth Show with West Lodge McNair.

First up was Black Isle where Max took the Highland Pony Championship, Overall Horse Championship and Reserve Champion of Champions 🏆🏆🏆. It’s always been one of our favourites on the summer circuit and we were so proud of Max coping with the demands of a busy agricultural show.

Then it was off down the A9 to Perth for the light horse day at Perth Show. Absolutely delighted to see Max win a very strong M&M stallion class in very good company 🥇. Then, after only being ridden for four weeks, out came the show saddle for the first time and Kayleigh Evans took him into his first ridden class.

Delighted to see them top the class 🥇 and get their Blair ticket! Max and Kayleigh went round the ring like they had been doing it for months and Max looked relaxed, happy and very at home in the ridden ring 🥺🥺. What a team! We can’t put into words how greatful we are to Kayleigh for doing such an amazing job with him and building such a strong bond with him already.

Lovely to catch up with so many folk and thank you to everyone involved in organising two top class shows 👍🏻

A rather warm and busy day at Banchory Show yesterday 🍦🌤

Thank you to everyone for there help while we juggled various duties throughout the day.

Our 3 year old, West Lodge Liberty, continued her great season winning her class, taking the Highland Pony Championship and Reserve Champion Heavy Horse. 40 years since her Great Grandfather, Duart of Glenmuick, took the Championship with Robin 🫣.

We also had 18 year old West Lodge Alby out with her c**t foal at foot for her first party since winning the Royal Highland Show in 2019. Delighted that she won her strong class with the foal coming third in his.

A few instagram v reality moments that come with a foal's first outing along with a tack malfunction, but it wouldn't be fun if everything was simple would it 😁

Thank you again to everyone for their help and to everyone involved in the Show!

Well done to everyone competing yesterday and well done to everyone for taking part in, and surviving 🫣, a rather energy filled livestock parade! 🎡🎤🎈🥁

As we all start the mountains of washing and wonder why we always take so much ‘stuff’ 🤷🏻‍♀️we just wanted to thank everyone behind the scenes at the Royal Highland Show. Particularly everyone involved in the Sunday night operation to get everyone loaded and away safely. A thankless task but it seemed to run smoothly, and most importantly, safely. 🚚🚚🐴🐄🐏

Very proud of three year old filly West Lodge Liberty taking all the demands of the Royal Highland Show in her stride. It’s easy to forget this is only her third outing.

So delighted to see this post about West Lodge Marty tonight looking fabulous and taking the showing ring by storm in the veterans. We wish Kirsty and Marty many happy shows to come in his veteran years.

Marty was born in the same year as West Lodge Alexander. Best of friends and, being the same year that the animation film Madagascar came out, we couldn’t look past calling them Marty and Alex.

17 years young. We look forward to following your veteran years Marty 🙏🏻 💙

We’ve been enjoying seeing everyone’s photographs and results from the first of the 2023 winter shows! Well done everyone 🏆

We had hoped to be joining you all but we have some winter improvements and renovations underway at home which have meant keeping the cups of tea and toast ☕️🍞 flowing for the builders, taking time away from youngster prep.

Keep those photos and results coming to keep us occupied during our cuppa breaks 👍🏻

We were delighted to have the opportunity to attend a special event at Moredun today in the company of HRH The Princess Royal.

It was a great opportunity to have time to speak to those ‘at the coalface’ of the most recent research being undertaken to tackle this devastating disease.

We are very proud to have done what we can to support this research, latterly through the Crathes Charity Show but also through our many party nights, ride outs and fundraising at NESHPES events over the past 25+ years.

Please do what you can to raise awareness of symptoms among horsey friends, support Equine Grass Sickness Fund fundraising and if you are in the heartbreaking situation of having a case, please report it to the fund and, if the time comes and you and your vet are able to do so, please think about donating samples through post-mortem 🙏🏻💚💛

Thoughts are with all our friends affected by Storm Babet. Hope everyone gets a bit of respite today before we prepare for round two over night and tomorrow.

Thankfully, other than loosing part of one of our favourite oak trees 😢 which thankfully fell away from any buildings or fields, we are ok.

Very thankful for our large American barn and stables and sheltered fields 🙏🏻

It’s been a pleasure to assist with the promotion of this weekend’s The Battle of Corrichie at Milton Of Crathes events field. West Lodge Catriona and West Lodge Alexander have both been perfect models throughout and thoroughly enjoyed getting into character - Alex maybe a little too much 😂 Flying the flag for our versatile breed!
