Bailey joined our calm socialisation walks this week after three one -to- one sessions at home.
Bailey is a very anxious and sensitive boy and it's taken me a while to get close to him. Bailey has not socialised much with humans or dogs outside of his home and so he has become reactive on walks.

For now we are concentrating on building Baileys confidence around my dogs and teaching him how to just 'be dog' again. He was nervous in the first few minutes but 15 minutes in he had his tail up high and a lovely little trot going!

How handsome is Griff from Cyprus who I had a session with yesterday?!

Quiet on the page lately but have been busy with 1-to-1 sessions, rehabilitation work with Stella and socialising walks.

Pack walks are a success and all the dogs who have joined have progressed massively. I do have a couple of spaces in the Barnoldswick area for dogs who need help socialising with calm dogs to join our walks-
Message for details :)

Stella is doing so well on walks!
She now doesn't pull until she almost chokes herself, the pulling was a result of anxiety but also made her anxiety worse as she struggled to breathe. She will now calmly walk on the lead, although she is still very alert to everything around her but we have now gotten into the habit of regularly checking in with eachother.

The only way is up!

Scooby and Rico spent quite some months in rehabilitation with me, but they have both now found their forever homes and I am there for any advice whenever it is needed.

You were both a challenge but we got there in the end boys!

Thank you to Loving Homes Rescue and Roaming Dogs Rescue :)

Tilly the little Rommie-

Over the weekend I visited Tilly who is a very insecure girl. Over the last 2 months she has been through so much and understandably still needs decompression time. Tilly came to the UK at the beginning of December 2021, she was collected from the streets with her litter not long before and also spayed before travelling, affecting her mental and physical state.

Tilly has joined a lovely young family who she adores, however, she does not take kindly to visitors. She constantly barks when people enter and has been known to chase and nip. It is clear these behaviours are manifestations of her trauma and we established that christmas time in a family environment will not have helped. But her family are willing to do anything for this lovely girl.

In our session we did some oil work which Tilly really enjoyed, we found what was needed to help create her a safe space in the home. Her family originally set her up in the utility room but she would bark, scratch and salivate when left in there. So I suggested we set her up a crate in a place that she enjoys being in (which was under her mums desk). For now we are just giving Tilly time to get used to this space and feel settled, but it will be her little safe haven when people visit the home and nobody will approach this space.

Stella rehabilitation update...

While the lovely Covid paid a visit over Christmas I knuckled down with Stella's focus work as she has now mastered the scent work/scatter feeding. Before there was no chance I could get her to look at me when outside and so now we have gone from focus work in the house/garden to focus work in a quiet area on a walk.
You can see how much calmer she is now when outside and not almost choking herself by pulling.
We now alternate between scatter feeding and focus work on walks and she is now much more connected with me.

Another busy week full of rescue work, home visits and training sessions.

Below is a photo from a visit I did on Thursday. Little Buddy (pup on the right) has only been in the UK for a couple of weeks, he is from Romania. Considering the short time he has been here he is doing fantastic, his new parents are giving him time to adjust and asked me to visit to make sure they were on the right tracks.

Buddy was not warming to his new dad, he was growling and very unsure of him, even though his new dad is very patient and gentle! I took trusty Donna (the one stealing treats) to build Buddys confidence around his dad, dogs are generally always your best 'tool' when working with Rommies and it worked a treat! Buddy sat next to his dad and even took some food after he saw Donna lapping them up.

This was a positive memory for Buddy to get the ball rolling. We discussed our next moves and a few changes of routine and last night I received a video of Buddy next to his dad having cuddles. There's still a way to go but he is progressing fast!

Well done to Buddys new parents for giving him time and asking for help before this issue spiralled and got worse.

Oh and well done to Donna of course!

Daisy the beautiful staff cross joined us for a pack walk today.
Daisy is an anxious girl and reactive to other dogs on a walk. Today we focused on keeping her calm when around other dogs, building her confidence and loose lead walking with the other dogs.
Daisy and her guardians are also having 1-to-1 sessions.
Daisy was wonderful today and we hope to have her join us more in the new year.

A big day for Stella and not one I was expecting or would have ever put on us.
Firstly, I took Stella to work today to meet some of my special dog friends. After weeks of working on her reactivity she greeted both of them calmly and politely. This was a huge win but I wasn't prepared for what we was going back to.
Whilst out, numerous Open Reach vans had taken over the street. I couldn't park outside the house and there were work men up and down the street. This is a living nightmare for a human reactive dog (who also reacts to vans and loud noises). There was no other option but to walk her through this, and after such a big win today I was gutted.
So I called Christian to come and get my other dogs out of the car so I could concentrate on Stella and walk down to the house.
We walked through the road works, vans and men and Stella remained calm and did not react once, she stuck to my leg and followed my every move. Even I could not believe this and I could not be more proud of this girl.

This is a situation I would have never dreamt of leading Stella into, but today we had no choice. We got into the house and my cheeks were hurting from how happy I was. I know this situation could have been very different if Stella had not been so successful in the session we had before, I know it could have been hell.

Now, plenty of rest for Stella to process today's events.

This week we also met the wonderful Bertie, we showed him how to be calm when around other dogs, how to gain focus when outside where he becomes very easily over stimulated, and some patience games.
Was a pleasure to work with.

Today we had an interesting session with Springer Manic Mollie.
The outside world is far to overwhelming for Mollie and so she drags her mum all over and is reactive to other dogs.
Today we worked on calming activities to do outside and focus work in the presence of team member Meggie.
By the end of the session, Mollie was walking on a loose lead and giving her mum eye contact.
Still a long way to go and plenty of work ahead but she is definitely worth it.

Well done Mollie and co!

Today we visited another new place for some scent work/scatter feeding.

We have now advanced the level of difficulty in finding the food as she is progressing and more focused on finding it after plenty of sniffing practice!
Today we also encountered a big trigger for Stella, which is what makes this video so special, though it may not look like much to most folk.
Today, during our session we saw two men, I asked if I could work with Stella while they were chatting and I moved closer to them. Stella continued to find the food instead of reacting which is just fantastic. Although, she wasn't too happy when they had to walk past us but that is just a good indication of where she is at with her comfort zone and distance to the trigger.

But today we are celebrating her being distracted when in two strangers presence...this is a big win for this lovely!

Yesterday I had a lovely session with a bouncy 10 month old pup called Harley. We had to show Harley how to be calm when visitors came to the house as she likes to shower them with affection and could get overexcited. We showed Harley that it is more rewarding to have all 4 paws on the floor and to be calm before approaching visitors.

Our next session we will be working on Harleys reactivity when on a walk.
