Well what a momentous week its been, you lot are certainly keeping us busy 🥰 🫶

Last Wednesday we took delivery for one of our popular frozen brands of raw dog food, that delivery weight was 750kg of frozen dog food.
By close of business Tuesday, 6 days later we had just 35kg left 😬

So there's another delivery on its way today 💪

That's just one of the 10 brands we stock, incredible 😲

Not only am I chuffed to flippin bits your dogs are getting a wholesome diet and thoroughly enjoying their meals, but your also helping to support an independent, small business that's coming up to our 5th birthday.

What a journey and if thats not enough to keep me busy, next year, there's more exciting big plans on the drawing board 🤫

Why is Boil & Broth kefir water good for your dog?

So I'll start with the science bit
Boil & Broth sent their Kefir water off to a lab for testing and what they found was incredible...

This is something every dog guardian fears.
Poor Pearl 😢

I couldn't stop thinking about Pearl when Liz first messaged me about what had happened on their daily walk.

In this region, we know they live in the beach dunes, especially Crow Point. It's also been reported recently we have them nesting on the tarka trail near Sandbanks

The first thing you need to do if you suspect your dog has been bitten, is to pick them up and run like hell back to your car and get straight to a vets
Do not walk your dog back to the car. This will only pump the Venom around to the organs quicker, which is likely to be fatal.

If your down here on holiday, always make sure you suss out where our local vets are and put the phone numbers in your phone.
We all know when we find ourselves in an emergency, many of us fumble and panic sets in.

Looks like we're going have a few hot days again 🥳

And I've decided to run a special for the next few days on cooling vests

These vests are so useful
All you need to do is soak them in a bucket of water or under the rap for a couple of minutes 💧

Squeeze out and place over your dog

The evaporative cooling theory replaces the dog's heat as water evaporates from the coat's reservoir and temperature drops by the wicking outer layer , absorbent middle.
The light colour also reflect the heat

A small number of you know I've been working away like crazy, behind the scenes on my other canine business.
" Wise Dog Botanicals"

As if I need to be busy and more crazy 🤓

I'm going to be launching my own branded herbal blends
for canines 🌿 under the name ⬆️

When I set out on this long journey, what I didn't want is to replecate whats already available on the market.
I wanted different.
We have sooooo many herbs to choose from and then it's the careful pairing of herbs.
So it's definitely not a quick job!

This is something very close & dear to my heart ❤️
A few years back I started using various herbs for my dogs and fell in love with how supporting they were for them.

Especially for my stress bunny Mr Darcey, who has daily struggles.

I witnessed exactly how these herbs were helping him and the positive indications he gave me in response to.

My first 2 blends will be ready for launch in the third to last week of August.

This is such important Information

When will my puppy...stop biting me?! 😩

O my, those little baby ‘land shark teeth’ certainly hurt!!

The good new is, if handled correctly, this phase won’t last long and will soon pass.

Your puppy is exploring everything around them and play biting is an important part of their development.

Top tips for surviving puppy nipping and biting

* Don’t try to handle an overexcited, over tired puppy - it won’t end well!
Choose your moments for picking up,
stroking and touching your puppy.
Instead wait until they are calm and relaxed. This will reinforce hands provide something good.

* avoid playing games using your hands - you really don’t want to encourage puppy to bite any body part - always use a suitable tuggy toy.

* Direct any unwanted ‘trouser hanging’ onto a tuggy toy, preferably a nice long one so your hand is one end and pups teeth are at the other!

* If pups teeth make contact with skin stop play by saying something like ‘game over’ and walk away. This will teach puppy that the fun stops when teeth go places they shouldn’t and you leave.

Follow exciting games with some scatter feeding (throw a handful of kibble onto floor/grass or snuffle mat) to help bring your puppies energy back down.

Remember puppies bite more when they are:

* Over tired and over stimulated
* Hungry
* Need the toilet

Help encourage calmness by giving a natural outlet by including an appropriate outlet for:
Licking
Digging
Sniffing
Chewing

Provide lots of chew toys to help relieve pain

By 6 months
All 42 permanent adult teeth should be through

TITRE TESTING CLINIC - 7th October

Hello everyone,

My next titre testing clinic will be Monday 7th October from 10am at the clinic.
If you would like to book your dog in then please email me on [email protected].
Titre tests will be £55 per dog to be paid in advance.
As usual we are testing for antibodies to Hepatitis, Parvovirus & Distemper.

What is a Titre Test?

A titre test is a blood test which measures the antibody levels to various disease in your dogs' blood. If they have adequate antibody levels present, then this is proof of immunity and shows that they do not need a booster vaccination. In fact, they are better proof of immunity than vaccinating, as some dogs do not respond to vaccinations. If you have a non-responder (more common in black & tan breeds) then you could give a vaccine every year and they may never produce antibodies or mount an adequate immune response, and so not be protected at all.

What Diseases are Tested?

The titre tests we use measure antibody levels to Parvovirus, Distemper and Hepatits - the 3 core diseases dogs are vaccinated against.
What will Happen on the Day?
All that will happen on the clinic day is we will take a blood sample from your dog, and make note of their previous vaccine history (so please bring this with you). That's it!

When Should I do a Titre Test?

Titre tests can be done at any time. However, the best time to do one is shortly before your dog is due their booster vaccination, so you know whether they need it or not. They are especially important in young dogs, as if a puppy finishes their vaccine course before 16 weeks then the vaccines may not have been effective, due to maternal antibodies still being present, which can block the action of the vaccine. A titre test can be performed any time from 1 month after a vaccine.

How Often Shoud I do a Titre Test?

Titre tests should be performed as often as needed. If you have a strong positive result then it is best to repeat the test every 3 years. If they have any borderline or low results, then it may be worthwhile repeating the test the following year, especially if it is the Parvovirus result that is low, as this is the most prevelant of these diseases. Your results will be sent out to you shortly after the clinic day, with recommendations for when it will next be due.

Why Should I Titre Test?

Titre tests allow you to avoid over-vaccination of your pet. At each vaccination, there is always a risk of a vaccine reaction, either immediately, or delayed. There are also various immune mediated diseases that have been linked with vaccination, with evidence suggesting the vaccine can act as a trigger for the disease process. These include immune mediated haemolytic anaemia, immune mediated thrombocytopaenia & immune mediated skin diseases.

Our popular Bat Walks are also back! With 3 dates this year (one in September) there will be lots of opportunity to learn about these night time fliers. Book your space today!

At the Countryside Centre we will also be having a new craft each week of the Summer holidays, in our children's area. This activity is free of charge and self serve so why not come down and have a go. We are open 10-4 Monday-Saturday.

Finally, we have our Nature Recovery map up and running. We would love people to come down and stick up a picture of what they have done for nature in their gardens, allotments or schools. Whether you have put up a bird box or grown some wildflowers, let's encourage each other by sharing what we have been doing in our community.

Garlic because it's a relative of the onion family, it's assumed it's toxic ❌ FALSE. Lots of studies to show it's safe

Mushrooms are health boosters, but always cook, so gentler on your dogs digestion, and to kill off mould spores which can be toxic for you & your dog.

Advocados, folk think think these are toxic and it's not the case.
This comes from a study on 2 dogs that were allowed to eat the leaves and stems. Advocado flesh is not toxic but the leaves and stems are.

Cherries, all perfectly safe just remove stones and stems

Pecan Nuts, amazing source of selenium. But always remove the outer hulls, which can upset the tummy.
Oh and chop small to avoid a choking hazard
