I kinda disappeared for a while. Sometimes I need to take a break from social media, and it's definitely made me feel a lot better. It's been a busy, and sad few weeks.
Flora, my lilac Dutch doe, passed away on the 3rd November. Not entirely sure of what cause, but I know it was not because she was attacked or hurt in anyway (she had no open wounds or cuts on her).
Since then, Fauna (my chocolate Dutch doe), and Theo (my blue Lionhead buck, neutered) have been sharing a pen inside the house, while we waited for their new hutch to arrive. The girls' old hutch was fine for spring/summer/autumn, but I it wasn't warm or weather-proof enough for winter, and I think this was the cause of Flora's death.
During the 3 weeks Fauna & Theo shared a pen, they were able to bond properly, and are now completely bonded. The reason I couldn't properly bond them in the past, is because Flora showed lots of aggression towards Theo (which is one of the biggest reasons I had removed her from my program as a breeding doe a few months ago).
Their new hutch is a much more suitable size, and much more weather-proof. I am being extra cautious with keeping them warm, and happy, and hopefully we should get through winter without anymore tragedies.
As much as I want to breed Fauna, and think she would make an excellent mother, I have decided I won't start breeding for another few years yet. I will wait until my life is more settled, and the future is more certain. For now, I will continue to enjoy my rabbits as just pets, and I look forward to starting my breeding program in the future.
