Happy New Year to all of our wonderful clients, horses and donkeys!🐴🐴🐴

The business grew from strength to strength last year and although running a small business can be challenging at times, I wouldn’t change it!
There will be a few small changes this year, we’ve been running for 18 months now and I’m starting to get more of an idea of what works really well and what could be better managed.

The first change is that we are leaving the payment plans in 2024. If you already have a payment plan set up, this will be honoured, however any new treatment from 2nd Jan 2025 onwards will need to be paid for as standard, in the 14 days after invoicing.

Unfortunately we had far too many people who only made the first payment before disappearing and having to be chased multiple times. As I am a small business, this money then disappears directly from me as all of our outgoings still have to be paid for. I work very hard and deserve to not have to pick up the bill for multiple other horses’ care. I think it’s important to note that all of these payment plans were set up for fairly routine appointments, carried out during working hours. They were not emergencies. Please do not book routine appointments if you cannot afford to pay for it - I don’t want to become the sort of practice that takes payment over the phone before coming to see patients!

Most of our clients are absolutely brilliant, you’ve kept Millar Equine Vets alive and growing and I’m so grateful for that.

Wishing all a happy and healthy 2025💫

Evening all😊
This is a difficult post for me to write and does not apply to the majority of my clients. It is a privilege to work with such lovely people and wonderful horses, ponies and donkeys.

However, we have a large number of outstanding invoices at this present time. We are small team of excellent vets and the care we provide is second to none. The service you will receive at Millar Equine Vets is first class, every time. We are proudly independent and a small business.

We allow clients to have accounts as we understand that often with horses, accidents can happen at the least convenient times and I have always agreed for clients to have payment plans when needed.

Unfortunately, this kind gesture has been taken advantage of and it is no longer acceptable. With over 1000 horses now registered, I do not have time to chase and chase outstanding invoices.

From today (01/10/24), Millar Equine Vets will not be attending clients who have outstanding invoices from before the previous 30 days.

I know that my practice provides what equestrians ask for, a one to one relationship with a kind and caring vet at an affordable cost.
We know our value and we ask that you respect that.

If you have outstanding invoices with us, please settle these as soon as possible or contact me to set up a payment plan.

Many thanks,
Grace🦄

Morning everyone!

Thank you so much to everybody who sent me well wishes following my untimely dismount from a certain pair of grey ears👇🏻

Thankfully I’m now fully recovered and have just had a wonderful weekend away with the horses for my birthday at Stockham Farm Exmoor☁️🌱

Please note that worm egg counts are now due🪱 If you haven’t already, collect a small sample and either drop it to us in Herriard Park or put it somewhere safe at your yard and we’ll collect it when passing.

See you soon, Grace 😃

One of my favourite patients having her hocks medicated with Arthramid this week.
Arthramid is a relatively new treatment that helps restore joint function and movement. It is a hydrogel and does not contain steroid, therefore making it suitable for laminitis-prone patients.

All of this wet weather has resulted in a huge increase in the number of hoof abscesses we’re seeing🤕
This patient is feeling much better after treatment - an impressive amount of pus to come out of such a little hoof!

January is looking a lot like this!
We are so thrilled with how seriously our clients take their horses’ teeth🦷🪥

We’ve had a fair few extractions, fractures and cavities so far this year already, highlighting the need for regular check ups. It’s surprising how often dental pain goes unchecked - our horses will continue to eat regardless!

If you’d like to book your horse, pony or donkey in for routine dentistry, please contact us on 07534531069 or email us at [email protected]

Don’t forget that annual routine dentals are covered in our Equine Health Scheme for just £14.99 per month 😁

⭐️New Vaccination Intervals for 2024⭐️

If your horse is starting their vaccinations this year, or re-starting their course, new intervals apply!

These new intervals are in line with the recommendations put out by the manufacturers themselves.

For all new vaccination courses started after 1st January 2024, the new intervals are listed below:

First Vaccination - day 0.
Second Vaccination - day 21-60.
Third Vaccination - 120-180 days after the second.

In simpler terms, there should be an approximate 4 week interval between the first and second vaccination, and an approximate 5 month interval between the second and third.

Please note that this change only affects horses who have had their first vaccination after 1st Jan 2024.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!🐴
It was lovely to have a Christmas break and enjoy my own horses, Caoimhe, Chip and Vinnie.
We are now back to normal working hours and hoping the weather is kinder to us in the coming months🤞🏻
