Lovely Ludo

Sleeping here! My boy lovely Ludo with one of Coco’s five week old puppies. They come out of their pen to feed and I let them have a little play and put them back to sleep - but Miss Pink decided she wanted to make like a big dog with Ludo. I think you can see he has a really lovely temperament.

Took Ludo to Bristol today. He was quite the celebrity. Even had someone googling golden show cockers and showing me Mungo 😆. Here he is with my daughter thinking he needs some tea too!

Lucy

I have done a very short term foster for Lucy who arrived VERY stressed. Small flat, toddler. She’s been here a week. There’s lots going on in this house so I’m not the ideal foster for her and she needs a more long term view to adopt owner, but I thought you would like to see. My super dogs have helped her to a lot too. When you remove situational stress, you get a totally different dog. Amanda x

Here’s a lovely quick video. My sister has been here for the week. Our foster dog adores her. And she him. Very sweet to see. And lovely to see how much he has come on in such a short space of time. She mostly call my hounds for everything 😆 so it’s lovely to see how some dogs just find a way to a special place in your heart. ❤️

When Margo had litters she was great Mum but of the Victorian kind 🤭 and left the playing to auntie Coco. Puppies are actually quite bitey things (watch your toes) and it’s really us and others dogs that teach them how to be gentle and what’s appropriate. I’m not a fan of chew replacements. Think better to teach not to chew or bite but that’s just me. But defo don’t put your fingers near a puppies mouth (they will bite it) and make it clear it’s not acceptable to chew or bite even if it seems cute. Which it undoubtedly is when they are weeks old - but not so much at 3 years old ☺️. Puppies don’t take turns to play and be the one ‘bitten’ like older dogs do (have posted on this before) - they just full on bite and paw so it’s something to watch out for when you have a solo puppy and make sure you get to meet great other dogs. I do believe well adjusted dogs can teach the younger ones (or foster ones on my case) what’s what - but Mungo stays away from the kitchen where they are as he really does not like puppies because of their invasion of his close personal space - and that’s a good thing for them to learn too. I am dog sitting two spaniels for a friend (who has gone to the summer solstice 😎😆). So there are 7 spaniels here. And it’s properly mad. So here’s Mungo, Margo, Coco (with ball), Cordi, foster dog Hugo, Dolly and her and Mungo’s son, Buster.

Lolling spaniels.

My two beautiful pedigree foster show cocker spaniels (Teddy and Hugo) ‘play fighting’ which is an instinctive and natural behaviour for dogs and plays a really important role in their social skills. Always supervise and there are some rules to follows. For example, the play should be in no way aggressive and mouths are open (no biting) with bums in the air (a play bow) and wagging tails. You will see they take turns - one of them doesn’t dominate play showing that it’s consensual and they are happy for it carry on. They should be matched in size and ‘energy’ as these two are (and in this case their age as well). These two are best buds (wonderful to see) so I am reassured on the context as well. It’s sometimes hard for people to evaluate but it’s actually a great way for dogs to demonstrate that they know how to interact well with other dogs. They are now curled up snoozing next to one another.
