Some of the dangers of too much ball retrieving should be acknowledged .

Our wee one actually experienced a number of vestibular attacks after vigorous excercise chasing balls on the beach .

She had three episodes over a period of 12 months. We spotted the link to beach visits playing ball and stopped throwing the ball .

The attacks stopped .

That was 4 years ago .

She still runs on the beach but not after the ball and the vestibular episodes have not recurred .

We know it’s great fun but we want to raise awareness of the risks .

If you're a regular user of the Lagan Towpath, you'll be pleased to hear that the Brown Bridge has now reopened to walkers and cyclists.

All the timber on the bridge had to be replaced after it had become unsafe.

Great to have this valuable connection between the riverbanks back in action again!

Our 5 Puppy Course is designed to help you give your new puppy the best start!

Suitable for puppies under 7 months and the puppies require their 2nd vaccinations to attend. Classes are held by Connor, who is an Accredited IMDT Dog Trainer (Institute of Modern Dog Training), and we only use reward-based training methods 🐶

💷 The 5-week course costs £95 per puppy (£25 deposit required to secure your puppies place, full amount required by first class) or (£15 deposit if booked before the 6th of August) 🐶

Warning. ⚠️⚠️⚠️ poisonous parsnips have been sighted on Millisle beach near old Borstal building.

Also reports that they were spotted on Murlough beach yesterday - 2 separate poison parsnip bunches on the beach close to the national trust car park, Dundrum

Might be best to Keep dogs on leads and be wary

This good boy has had a busy evening with Downpatrick Police, conducting a paw patrol in Annacloy but unfortunately is tired now and ready to go home.

He has been out since approximately 1700 hours, in Annacloy but we have not been able to locate its owner. If you recognise this dog please contact 101 and quote reference 1555 of 16/07/23.

UPDATE ON BLUE-GREEN ALGAE ON BEACHES

Council has received confirmation that analysis of the water samples collected by DAERA for the presence of blue green algae has established that levels are well below the World Health Organisation (WHO) guideline level.

As a result, the decision has been made to remove the red flag status at Benone Strand, Castlerock Beach and Downhill Strand with immediate effect.

⚠️ We have been contacted by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), part of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs regarding Blue/Green algal blooms that have been found in the Lower Bann River. ⚠️

People are advised not to swallow, swim or allow pets in the water. Avoid all contact with the algae as contact may result in skin rashes, eye irritation, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and/or muscle and joint pain.

👉 Members of the public can report a suspected bloom through the NIEA incident hotline on T: 0800 80 70 60 or e-mail [email protected] with a photo, if possible, and details on the location of the potential bloom.

Alternatively, the "Bloomin’ Algae" App enables members of the public to submit a photo of the bloom taken on their phone and state what activity takes place at the location, so that the potential risks to people and animals can be gauged.

The App is free to download directly from Google Play or App Store.
