Work had been limited due to ongoing van troubles. However, we did meet up with our lovely assistance dog duo, to work on some dog distraction. Suki tagged along for this one 🐾
This team have made amazing progress! We now have a lovely focused loose lead, we ignore dogs and people, and we are working on ignoring novel objects when out and about.
I love being a part of their journey, to becoming a qualified assistance dog team 🤞🐾

We struggled with our recent training walk, she was a little worried and a little frantic initially. BUT we had some amazing moments of focus and loose lead walking, probably the best to date! It just took us a while, and that's OK!

After spending some time away and on holiday, Malu's recall slacked a little. We spent our recent training walk reminding her good things happen close and big rewards happen when you recall.

Mia joined me for a training walk recently. I've known Mia a long time, so it was lovely getting out with her!
As an assistant dog, Mia has certain behaviours she must consistently perform to retain her qualification, so we spent time solidifying these behaviours. Then we had a play around with some other commands Mia knows, which made us realise we have some homework to do with Mia dropping things! 🙈 Cheeky monkey!

Rolo 🐾
I recently got to spend some time with this boy on a training walk. We focused mostly on gundog exercises, particularly retrieving to hand.
Rolo knows a treat will happen if he brings his dummy back, so will drop it on the floor as he runs in, read to get his treat!
So, I removed the treat and rewarded Rolo with the chase of the dummy, and continuation of the game, IF the dummy landed in my hand!
Sometimes all we have to do is change our reward 🐾

We've been to lots of different places recently, to really work on Malu's focus and recall. We've had recent trips to Priory Park.
Was it hard? Yes. Did we have to reset? Yes. BUT Malu remained focused, recalled every time from distractions, AND we had zero barking or lunging at people or dogs.
Sometimes, we have to put ourselves and our dogs in slightly harder environments or situations to push forward with training.
She also thinks she's a lap dog.. see final clip 🙊

We've been having fun with some gundog exercises recently, particularly looking at getting a super quick stop on the whistle, and adding in some distance.
