Poncho’s Christmas Miracle: A Life-Saving Cardiac Intervention 🎄❤️
On the afternoon of Christmas Eve, Poncho arrived at Blaise Veterinary Referral Hospital with concerning symptoms of severely decreased heart rate (bradycardia), lethargy, vomiting, anorexia, and episodes of weakness.
Initial investigations revealed a pathological arrhythmia, meaning Poncho’s heart was beating at just 15-20 beats per minute. This abnormal rhythm is most likely caused by a degenerative disease affecting the heart’s electrical system. The only effective treatment for this condition is the implantation of a pacemaker.
After a thorough discussion with Poncho’s owners, we moved forward with the pacemaker implantation later that evening. The procedure went smoothly, and Poncho’s recovery was nothing short of remarkable—she truly is our Christmas star! 🌟
We are thrilled to report a significant improvement in Poncho’s health, with her demeanour and heart function showing marked progress just hours after the pacemaker was implanted. We’re hopeful that she will make a full recovery and enjoy the rest of the holiday season with her family.
