A very big thank you to Lynne Stevens for giving Gandalf a new winter coat 😍 He was very happy to wear it this morning as it was extra cold and frosty today!
Ga says thank you muchly for this lovely new fleece from Tracy and Joe. He's been getting a lot of cramps and pain and this new longer coat is perfect for keeping his back legs wrapped up and warm 😍
Floppy vs pineapple
I was taking this out to the green waste but Floppy had other ideas!
Floppy Day 3
Floppy Day 3
Well imagine my delight to have spent the whole night in my bed! It seems the crate worked like a dream. I went downstairs at my usual time to find him lying down, the bedding still dry and not dug up or chewed. Success! Being able to have him secure and comfortable in a crate will make things much easier when I have the five dogs to manage on my own and also need to start going out for appointments again. As well as being to relax a little when I’m in, instead of constantly checking up on him. This is a real game changer!
Sadly, things went downhill a bit at breakfast. In his excitement he got in the front room and promptly peed in the toy box and up the sofa. More washing to put on. He seems to struggle with his bowl in the stand, again I wonder if this is due to his undershot jaw. For our walk we tried a different plan today. After taking Gandalf out, I went for a longer walk with Floppy and Jim, while Martin took as mooch around the local pond with Ajay and Meg. The first part was tricky, as is so often the case, seeing a couple of dogs near the crossroads just yards from the house. We hid behind some cars and had treats til the coast was clear. He calms down quite quickly if you’re able to block his view, and can eat a few treats til it’s safe to move on. Floppy walks nicely on the lead and likes to stride out, which works well with Jim as a companion. Later on, we had a close encounter with a small white fluffy and had to make a run for a safer space, but overall, it was uneventful.
They all supervised me doing a spot of gardening and then Auntie Ineke popped by to say hello. Floppy enjoyed his cuddles although Gandalf was determined to be first in the queue. For lunch we tried putting Floppy’s bowl at an angle and this seemed to work much better. After all that excitement he crashed out in the garden for a siesta til it was time for a brush, followed by another snooze. Such is a day in the life of a fostered greyhound.
If only I'd arrived a few minutes earlier! Now look at it 🙄
A lovely peaceful afternoon in the garden... Not! I agree Jimmy, let's go back inside!
Daisy and Meg are not sure about this marathon business, they'd rather have a short sprint and use the rest if the time for a snooze!
He was determined to try, but after 30secs admitted it was too hot. Sensible dogs stay cool indoors! No walks for us today, it's not worth the risk. Stay safe in the heat!
It seems like spring has sprung! So nice to have a shadow again 😊
Enrichment is about boosting your dogs opportunities to use their instincts and do doggy things. Here Gandalf is enjoying exploring the food delivery with his teeth!
Daisy having a nose massage!
Seems like Ajay is finding the water a bit solid today 🙄
Simple changes can make a big difference! Meggie is always pulling to the side, she wants to walk further away from the gang and hates being between me and another dog. Now i have bought her a longer lead, the pulling has stopped and she walks along quite happily 😊
That's what friends are for 😊
Mr G has been with me 18 months now, never showed any interest in the washer dryer until he saw the new spiky balls go in to tumble dry 🙄
Someone needs cuddles today. Greyhounds can make learning to touch type kind of irrelevant 🤣
Teeth cleaning session as its sunny 😊
How long does it take to change a reactive dog? That's kind of a 'piece of string' question. The answer is probably better measured in patience than time...its taken Gandalf 18 months to be able to feel calm enough in a public place to pick up a treat from the floor.
You are feeling verrry sleeeepy......
