Cat microchipping

As of the 10th June 2024 it will become a legal requirement to have your cat microchipped!!

🐱A microchip is not a tracking device, however, it is very effective in reuniting you with you cat if they go missing!
🐱 It is a quick, noninvasive procedure and can usually be done conscious.
🐱 The microchip is the size of a grain of rice and sits below the skin surface positioned between the shoulder blades.
🐱 It holds an individual identification number which allows us to access your contact details, it is important for these to be kept up to date!

❗❗Flea and wormer prescriptions and checks❗❗

Historically our flea and worm checks have been performed by our veterinary nurses or you could request any flea or worm treatment as long as your pet has seen a vet in the last 12 months. Due to new prescribing laws bought into force by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons affecting prescription only medication (which all our flea and worm treatment are), this is no longer the case.

In order for your pet to be prescribed flea and worm treatment, your pet MUST have be examined by a veterinary surgeon who can then put detailed authorised repeat prescription notes relating to the exact flea and worm product in your pet’s clinical notes which will apply for a 12 month period after which your pet will need another examination. Unfortunately the new law means we cannot authorise flea or wormer prescriptions in retrospect based on previous physical examinations, even if the health of your pet has not changed.

Often this examination will be carried out your pet’s booster, however if your pet does not receive regular visits or vaccinations you will be asked to book an examination with the vet. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause, however it is important we are compliant with the law. If your pet sees a vet for any kind of check up – it would be beneficial to ask for a flea and worm check at the same time to ensure you can avoid a repeat visit, even if you do not require the prescription there and then.

Adhoc, regular & short notice playtimes available once you are a client. I will come visit you and complete the paperwork before any walks can happen and obtain a key which is kept safe at all times.

Dogs will need to be vaccinated and kennel cough is also preferred, neutered where possible and age allows and flea/wormed regularly and microchipped with collar/harness with tag.

Lunge worm 🪱

Lungworm awareness! 🪱

Lungworm is now becoming more prevalent within the UK and as vets we are now seeing more and more cases of this. Your dog is at risk of catching lungworm if it has contact with slugs or snails. Lungworm infections can be serious or even fatal if left untreated and although they can cause a cough or breathing difficulties the effect pets can also show other symptoms too.

Pets may show just one or more of the following symptoms:
• A cough or breathing difficulties.
• Weight loss.
• Unexplained bruising or bleeding.
• Seizures.
• Collapse or shock.
• Blindness.

An example would be our Rosie in the photo bellow with one of our nurses Laura. Rosie came in for an operation to be spayed. Luckily her owner consented for us to perform a lungworm test which came back as POSITIVIE. With this we was able to start treatment straight away to help her be covered for lungworm and be able to have her spay in the future. However, in some cases we have seen some that haven’t been detected and can cause complications during surgery such as a bleed out as they won’t have the ability to clot and then this could be life threatening in the long run.

If you are unsure if your dog is up to date with lungworm, please give us a call and we can try and assist you. Lungworm tests are offered to all clients who bring their animal for surgery but can also be done as a normal appointment! ❤❤

I found some old pictures of some of the fur babies I had before my dogs & horses.
From KitKat who would come with me in the car to my dads and go into the garden until I called him to say we are going home.
My little Netherland dwarf rabbit who would bite me and didn’t want a companion in her hutch but I eventually got two rescue bunnies and they had a hutch next to her.
Charlie the little old black cat saw his days out with me, he was lovely.

When driving, you should now pass horse riders and horse-drawn vehicles at speeds under 10 mph and allow at least 2 metres of space. Check the changes, let’s keep each other safe.
