To better serve our customers' needs and accommodate those finishing work, we are adjusting our store hours starting next week.

Effective Saturday, August 3rd, our new hours will be:

Monday to Friday: 11 AM - 6 PM

Understanding of allergies…

As we navigate our way through the raw diet, we may notice our dogs scratch, itch or gnaw at themselves and we often blame what’s in the bowl. However, it can be more complex than that. It could even be what’s in the home…

Take poultry for example, we can very easily jump to the conclusion our canine companions are allergic to chicken should they be displaying any of the above listed symptoms, whereby the reality is, it’s often the food (the grain) the chicken is being fed, rather than the chicken itself!

We need to remember that some allergies can be caused by toxins and/or environmental issues, such as pesticides and/or parasites. It is not uncommon for a dog to be as allergic to grass as easily as it can be to grain!

Diagnosing an allergy can be a potential minefield, but if we are determined and pragmatic, it can be achieved and without the need of an expensive vet bill to go with it. We must first start by isolating a particular protein, and by that we strip out everything else that you may wish to include, even fruit, vegetables or the dreaded kibble mixer! We must be strict with this and feed ONLY this single protein for 7-10 days and looking for any tell-tale signs that this meat may be the culprit! Whilst we do this even our daily tit-bit treats must be spared, as who is to say it isn’t the artificial colouring and/or preservatives that is causing the incessant itching. Once this protein is ruled in or out, we move on to the next singular protein and so on. This will enable you to fully diagnosis the raw diet in terms of its ability to cause an allergic reaction, but don’t forget allergies can be toxic/environmentally based, even going so far the plug-in air fresheners or the carpet cleaning solution…
