Our littlest legs in the treadmill 🥹🫶🏼The sweetest little Rue, is 3 year old papillon. She had patella surgery back in February, and then had revision surgery in June this year, she recovered well and has already had some treadmill experience at Fitzpatricks at the time of the surgery. She is now attending for maintenance hydrotherapy with us in the treadmill to maintain hindlimb muscle strength and stifle range of motion to continue to support her patellas and reduce any stiffness. Swipe to see her in action 🐾🐕💦(Note: the video was filmed in the mirror, so it shows the limbs the opposite way 🫣)
Hi I’m Oscar!
I have attended Therapaws since 2021 due to having bilateral hip dysplasia. I love swimming, and enjoy attending every 2 weeks, to keep my hips strong and comfortable.
And…apparently I’m quite photogenic, so here’s a compilation of me looking cute… 🩵

He previously attended as a rehabilitation patient during the early stages of his diagnosis, but has since been attending for overall muscle and joint maintenance.
He is maintains being a strong and healthy boy, and recently him and his mum walked over 60 miles in a month for charity, and he coped really well.
Arthritis
❔Did you know that arthritis can occur in dogs from the age of 2 years old and it affects 80% of those over the age of 8 ❔
🐕 Arthritis is a chronic, meaning long term inflammatory joint disease affecting all joints. Those with developmental disease such as hip and elbow dysplasia, those post surgery such as cruciate surgery, patella luxation or arthroscopies are at more risk of developing arthritis.
🐕 The condition results in inflammation, thickening of the soft tissues surrounding the joint, loss of mobility and sadly pain and discomfort.
🐕 Muscles surrounding the joint can also weaken and become sore and tight in an attempt to compensate for the joint pain leading to further discomfort.
If left unmanaged the pain signals coming from the joint is magnified and a small amount of pain can start to feel like a lot of pain.
Early signs you may see in your dog if you suspect arthritis include, but are not limited to:
🦴 Stiffness or limping after rest
🦴 Hesitation to jump in / out the car or on / off furniture
🦴 Licking over joints
🦴 Lameness
🦴 Changes in behaviour such as becoming lethargic, taking a dislike to being touched over certain areas, not enjoying activities they used to enjoy, and slowing down on walks
💦 Hydrotherapy (swimming) and Physiotherapy that we can offer here at Therapaws can be a part of a multi-modal approach to manage the condition to slow down progression, improve comfort levels and reduce pain alongside veterinary treatment such as pain medication, home management and weight loss.
Benefits of swimming
🐾 Low impact non-weight bearing exercise to reduce pressure on joints
🐾Resistance of the water allows them to build the supportive musculature surrounding the joint
🐾 Maintain joint mobility
🐾 The warm water reduces pain and relaxes tight muscles
🐾 Improve cardiovascular fitness and stamina
🐾 Assist with weight loss
Benefits of Physiotherapy
🐶 Reduces muscle tension
