I feel I have a few answers from the camelid conference so far. I lost an alpaca I bought and one year and aultopsy said it was high copper! Caulse of death. Id only had the alpaca 9 months. Along with the others I bought. Years ago people fed alpacas cattle feeds. Which has high copper in them. Copper is one thing alpacas dont tollerate well. I now wonder if this was the alpacas past history! We are very careful what we feed our alpacas. We can honestly say we never used cattle feed or copper feeds (unless in specalist alpaca feed, which is usally tiny traces of copper), on any of our alpacas. So when buying your alpacas try and research what they was fed by past owners where possible.
