⭐️ SOPH’S CLIPPING ⭐️
BEFORE & AFTER🐴✨
A bit of a longer post…
I recently had an experience with my sisters pony, Whiz, that really highlighted the importance of regular clipping. The other evening, when I went to check on him before bed and give him his hay, I was shocked to find him absolutely drenched with sweat (shown by the 2nd photo). He looked like he’d been sprayed with a hose! Concerned, we took his temperature and while it wasn’t dangerously high, it was just on the verge of abnormal. He was well in himself and we’d had no previous concerns, he just seemed hot.
After thinking it through, I realized that this is the first year he hasn’t been clipped, due to the fact he hasn’t been exercised as much. His coat had grown so thick that, due to the milder weather, he was struggling to regulate his body temperature properly. The following day, I gave him a hunter clip (removing the saddle pad) and his temperature returned well within normal range, making him much more comfortable.
This experience really drove home how important it is to monitor our ponies' coats, especially as the weather shifts. If your pony has grown a thick coat and isn’t being worked regularly, clipping can still help prevent overheating and ensure they stay comfortable throughout the winter.
If your pony is starting to fluff up for winter, don’t hesitate to contact me to schedule a clip and make sure your pony is feeling their best this season 🐎❄️🩵
