Whilst this continuing hot weather is lovely, it can take a toll on our dogs.

Keep any eye out for signs below of dehydration. If you are struggling to get your dog to drink, try a small capful of milk in the water or perhaps some cooled stock

We’ve had a busy weekend full of training in the glorious sunshine!

Our current workshop is focusing on ‘dog handling’. A dog learns what their handler is asking of them, less through verbal communication and more so through body language and other forms of non-verbal communication. Another key factor we are working through within these weeks of training is how your emotions can effect your dog’s ability to do what is being asked of them.

Mastering the art of conversation is one of the best things we can do for our dog. 🐾

A lovely example of what we are covering in our recall class. Using place boards as a way to extend distance whilst Molly waits until asked to come by her owner. This is a great way to teach your dog to sit and wait until asked to do otherwise. This practice will be used when out on walks with distraction such as wildlife/scents and other dogs.

A friendly message to all dog owners. Lambing is in full swing, please be aware of any field you use to exercise your dog. Scottish law has now changed- dog owners can now be fined up to £40k if they allow their dog to run in a field with livestock. Having noticed an increase of dog owners walking through fields with livestock with their dogs I feel it is crucial to make people aware of the consequences. A farmer is permitted to shoot a dog if it is worrying their livestock. It is sad to think that a pet dog pay such a heavy price for owners lack of awareness. Please help spread the message. During lambing season dogs on leads can cause heavy stress to livestock. There are plenty of beautiful scenic and safe walks across all areas of Scotland. So please if you see any sign of livestock in a field please do not enter and go elsewhere.
