“How long should my puppy walk?” 🧐

Well it all depends on age, breed, size and energy levels. A 12 week old Chihuahua is going to have very different needs compared to a 12 week old Belgium Malinois.

The common “5 minutes per month of age” rule isn’t a strict scientific guideline. ⏱️

Whilst puppies do need plenty of rest, around 18+ hours of sleep a day, and too much repetitive exercise can put unnecessary strain on growing joints; sniffing, exploring and short training sessions can be just as tiring as walking for distance. 😴

Although a puppy may look like they have endless energy, that doesn’t mean they need more exercise. Overtired puppies can actually become more hyper and difficult to settle. 😵‍💫

You want to focus on quality over distance, and prioritise building confidence, good habits and calmness over trying to physically tire them out.
