This is so hard,
Yesterday my own boy Marley gained his wings and went over rainbow bridge 🌈

It’s just so raw and sad i cannot express the hurt, emptiness and pain it has brought to the house.

He made so many friends (2 legs and 4) with all of you, and we went through so many good times and bad.

We are all just a little lost right now and I will do my very best to keep things together but as the saying goes,
You never know how much someone means to you until they are gone 💔

Rest in Peace my sweet boy xx Thank you for being there x

Hug your dogs, kiss them and treasure every moment x

⛔️ What it looks like when I have a No shows ⛔️

🐾 I waste 90minutes of my time
🐾 I make negative posts like this
🐾 I waste products that have been prepared for the appointment
🐾 Another client misses out who could have had the appointment instead
🐾 I miss out with loss of earnings if the cancellation fee is not paid and they go elsewhere
🐾 I question is it worth the effort running a small business anymore.

Sorry but to rebook due to a missed appointment with no notice requires full payment of the missed appointment,

This isn’t just a hobby, this is a business and my job !!

I understand things happen but please just let me know even on the day or at least message back when I try and contact you.

Sorry to rant but 3 no shows in a week is allot of money to lose 🤨

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Unfortunately, the cold weather has caused some pipes to burst, and we are working hard to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

I appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter and will keep you updated on the situation and reschedule your appointments as soon as I can. (And my poodles can think again if they are escaping their bath times too) 🤣

Dear valued clients,

As we welcome 2024, many of us are taking this opportunity to embark on new challenges.

Entering my 22nd year dog grooming, I would like to share with you that I have received a diagnosis that requires me to make changes to protect my health and wellbeing if I am to continue my dog grooming career.

I understand the difficulties and importance of providing the best service to my clients. Therefore, I am adapting new ways to simplify operations so that I may continue to remain operational.

I regret to inform you that I may no longer be able to offer the usual number of available appointments or continue to groom all my current clients.

I have already been in contact with those I feel I am unable to provide a service for any longer and I thank them for their understanding as grooming dogs safely is a priority.

For the rest of you, I aim to continue to deliver the best service I am able, and the changes will go unnoticed.

Thank you for your understanding and I would like to take this moment to express my gratitude for your continued support and loyalty and wish you all good health, happiness and prosperity for 2024.

Always grateful,
Claire 🐾

🌙 The Impact of Darker and Shorter Days on our Dogs Behaviour 🌙

❄️
I now operate winter times as a groomer as darker/shorter days can have an impact on our dogs more than we realise.

🌚
Many dogs associate the darker/shorter days with the negative associations of our seasonal celebrations such as fireworks.

💥
Even when firework time is over fearful dogs can condition themselves and associate the darkness with a negative experience and often owners who walk their dogs after dark can find this problematic.

😟
Anxiety and Stress can really take its toll on a dog and they may behave out of character or exhibit behaviours to help comfort themselves.

⚠️
This time of year in the salon I notice dogs exhibiting more excessive behaviour signs such as;
🐾 licking more
🐾 more anxious than usual when left
🐾 being more needy and wanting comfort
🐾 and generally unsettled during the grooming routine when they are usually very compliant.

🚨
This is part of the reason why I choose to only have appointments within during daylight hours.

❗️
Remember, our dogs need time to adjust to the winter routine just like us!
Walking in the dark, car headlights dazzling, having to wear coats, lights on collars, being rubbed down more often after walks.
It’s easy to forget how much our dogs comply with lots of daily things so let’s be conscious of them and reward how amazing they are to adapt to our lifestyles and where possible expose them as much as we can to having a routine in the daylight.

⛅️ 🌞 Seasonal Coat Shedding 🌝 🌙

Autumn/Winter is the time of year most dogs shed their light undercoat (underwear) and grow in a thicker one (thermals on).

But did you know,

Hair growth is affected by
* Daylight
* Temperature
* Hormones

These three things are connected to the absence or presence of daylight.

During the winter the availability of natural light becomes less, which affects the Hypothalamus area of the brain.
The Hypothalamus produces hormones that controls the body’s heart rate, temperature, mood, hunger and sleeping rhythm.

When the clocks change we directly affect all of a dog's daily activities. Feeding and exercising happen at different times exposing the dog to varying amounts of day light.

In the summer dogs typically tend to spend more time outdoors than in the winter, pretty much mirroring what we do as humans, and this can have a huge impact on their mental health.

Being indoors for some dogs during winter months can have an adverse effect on their moods as well as their coat with some breeds being more affected than others.

Why does this matter?
Knowing what causes our dogs to shed helps us understand their grooming needs and hoovering needs!

Shedding occurs as a natural part of the growth pattern of the hair.

When shedding becomes more frequent it is a result of the cycle speeding up and vice versa

What causes changes in growth patterns of hair?

* Seasonal changes
This is the most common cause of changes in growth and shedding patterns. As the weather gets warmer the dog thins its coat and slows the growing cycle much in the same way as we wear lighter clothing, in the colder months more hair is needed to keep warm so the growth cycle speeds up.

* Hormone changes
Imbalances in the male and female s*x hormones can effect hair growth. Spayed and neutered dogs have a longer hair growth cycle making the coats thicker, longer and more unruly. Other imbalances, commonly thyroid hormones have a different effect and can stop hair growing.

* Allergies
Can cause dogs to lick, chew and scratch an area which can in turn lead to a damaged thinning and broken coat, this abuse of the skin and coat can have a direct impact on the hair growth cycle.

* Diseases and hereditary conditions
For example Colour Dilution Alopecia or CDA, where the hair is faulty due to the way that the colour is distributed and so it is shed more frequently and is prone to damage.

* Malnutrition
Hair and skin is essentially protein and takes a large amount of the dog's daily intake to produce a healthy skin and coat. If protein levels are not sufficient this will slow down the growing phase of the coat cycle and produce poor quality hair that will damage easily and result in slow growth.

How can owners help?
As owners we can help our dog's mood, coat and skin by walking them during daylight when possible, ensuring they are eating a balanced diet and use a massage brush on a daily basis to loosen and remove hair while improving its condition. Take a massage brush when you walk and brush in the park - the wildlife will love you for some extra nesting material and it will save on the vacuuming!

🎆Fireworks 🎆

Yes it’s that time of year, and part of the reason why I only have dogs coming to appointments during daylight hours.

Unpredictable loud and strange noises.

I’m very fortunate as during the first 6-8 months of owning any dog I make sure I play fire work noises during settling time for my dog and the results speak for themselves.

However this isn’t a fool safe and for those struggling the following can help and also look into naturally calming remedies. If these don’t work always try prescription medication from your vet.

Remember be prepared and keep your dogs as comfortable as possible 🐾

🎃No Tricks just Treat🎃

It is the season of Pumpkins. My dogs love it and eat with every meal or spread onto Liki mats.

🍽️💥Pumpkins are a doggie super food containing micronutrients and fibre.

💊 Packed with minerals,
🍴 Great for digestion
💩 Bulks up stool’s and helps reduce diarrhoea 🚽
And a
⛑️🦠 Prebiotic powerhouse strengthening their digestive health.

So why not try:
Freshly baked pumpkin, crunchy roasted pumpkin seeds, steamed/boiled mashed/puréed pumpkin
Or if you don’t want to cook pick up some 100% plain canned pumpkin or pumpkin powder.

Make sure it’s 100% pure pumpkin and feed 1-4 tablespoons per sitting.

🐾Happy treating 🐾

⚠️ No more 2023 Appointments ⚠️

Sorry 🤷🏽‍♀️

Appointments are now only being booked in for JANUARY 2024.

If you have missed out and cannot wait until January, I’m sorry but please find an alternative groomer who can accommodate.

I love that so many of you are wanting your dogs pampered however,

Please appreciate grooming your dogs safely takes priority,
booking in too many dogs/rushing/crossing over dogs puts pressure on myself and your pets and jeopardises welfare and safety!

Extending your dogs scheduled grooming appointment by a few weeks is not an emergency and for my own sanity at this busy time of year, please do not pressure me otherwise.

If you do have real emergency welfare concerns please seek professional veterinary advice.

Thank you all

For those coming to me today, please take care.

It’s so windy…

-Car boots/doors may slam,
-Debris if flying around

And dogs may be a little sensitive too with unpredictable knocks/bangs.

🍂 ⏰ Working Day Time Changes ⏰ 🍂

The days are slowly getting shorter as we approach the end of the year.

As of 29th October 2023 when the clocks go back all appointments will be restricted to daylight hours only.

This means early morning / late afternoon & evening appointments are no longer available until next year.

These changes are being put in place for the safety and comfort of all my clients.

As always, thank you for your support and understanding 🐾
