Paws for walks is very happy to have such wonderful, engaging dogs to play with and teach. Training walks tire the brain, get the dogs thinking, learn to make positive choices, and provide motivation to learn. All this supports all the training you do at home. End result a well rounded canine being and a smiley owner. Watch carefully over the coming months. Big Pawsitive changes are on the horizon.

Big session at the vets today! Abbotwood vets worked magic on a meet and get to know you session today. He looked around the offices, checked out the consult rooms, had a huge amount of liver pate and got fuss from all the ladies! After all that he deigned to get on the scales, first time in 3 yrs! I'd say that was a win. Go Scamp you've come so far in such a small space of time.

As you most of you know by now, my walks stop when the temperatures/humidity gets to a point where I know the dogs I walk won’t just not cope, but will also not really enjoy their walk & would be better being at home.

The first half of this week is due to be up to 27°C by the middle of the afternoon. I’ll obviously be starting earlier than normal.

All of my walks will be finishing before it gets to 23°C or before depending on the age, breed & health of the dog.

These type of guidelines are a bit like food labels on dog food packaging…. they’re guidelines. All dogs are individuals…. Check the weather and get out early . Also don’t assume that by 6 or 7pm the temperature has cooled off. Often between 4-7pm is the hottest part of the day even if the sun is lower.

Ditch the high intensity games like ball throwing, and find a shady flat walk preferably with water.

Reactive dogs have their reasons. In my mind, no dog is a bad dog, just as no person is born bad. Crap things happen that can lead to being triggered into responses we and our dogs use in an attempt to stop bad things happening again. All beings can unlearn bad habits. Come walk with me, you sensitive dwags, let us have fun whilst learning how to manage our triggers.

Lovely photos. Glad I have some good ones of meggles especially

Last day of the week spent with these two beauties. Young Spaniel has a hard time with other men, so we frequent quieter spaces and the big burly Rottweiler, is a gentle giant when he's not worried. Must say both owners are doing a great job with training/behaviour support.

Let’s talk about our cool dogs in yellow and the gentle reminder that sometimes, they might be feeling a bit anxious or scared. Just like us, our four legged buddies have their moments of anxiety and can feel vulnerable.
So when you spot a dog in yellow, remember a little distance can go a long way! Give them some room, let them take a breather and watch as their world becomes a brighter and less frightening place. .da.dachshund
