These two have made so much progress already in only two lessons! We have been working on getting Dixie really listening to the riders voice and body aids so that she can get a slower, more balanced trot and canter 🐎

A lovely sunny morning of learning how to long-rein today, including the importance of road safety🚦

Long-reining is a fantastic way to 'ride from the ground' and build muscle whilst furthering their education. It is also incredibly useful when rehabbing a horse from an injury!

Another successful day with this herd! All four of these horses are very different, so I have worked with their owner to create a unique plan for each horse, and I'm pleased to say they are all progressing amazingly 😁 very much looking forward to their future!

I've had a very hectic time recently between teaching as my youngster is on box rest due to a field injury and is needing tlc and lots of attention ❤️‍🩹

Biggest thank you to my helpers today for making this clinic happen, I couldn't of done it without you!! This clinic was almost cancelled due to me being in crutches, but thanks to Bella and Matt putting the poles out for me and helping throughout, we managed both classes 💪🏻

Everyone did amazingly well and it was lovely seeing some new faces 😁 and thanks for tolerating my hobbling!

...now to rest my legs!

A lovely group of horses who I have started working with recently 🐴

These guys are all from various backgrounds, so training plans will be catered to each individual horse to suit their needs. Some will be backed and ridden away using horse-led methods, whereas some will be unridden and doing some relaxing liberty work and clicker training ☺️

I absolutely love this visual from How To Dressage about the affects that a tense, stressed rider has on the horse.

This is such a common occurance when having confidence issues as a horse person - but we can fix this! We can focus on improving your confidence during lessons by using a variety of helpful techniques and exercises.

By building the skills to be a relaxed and confident rider, you can vastly change the way your horse reacts to you in the saddle and their surroundings 🐎

Even if your horse is limited in what they can do, lessons can still be full of different exercises and learning! As this pair are only walking at the moment, we went over some polework to focus on straightness and spoke lots about the different footfalls in gaits. Accurate circles are something that this duo find tricky, so we also did some exercises to improve their 20m circles 😁

Even if you or your horse have limits, are rehabbing, or just need a confidence boost, there is so much we can improve during lessons; whilst still making it fun!

During my time doing clicker training, I have seen horses change from nervous wrecks into totally confident horses, and it is amazing to see! Some horses simply just do not respond well to 'traditional' types of training, so changing your training technique could help you to solve issues you have been having. And even if your horse works well with 'traditional' techniques, clicker training can be used along side these methods! Why not try something new to strengthen your relationship with your horse and add some variety into your training program? What you can use clicker training for? - getting braver going past spooky things - teaching fun tricks (bow, lie down, smile) - increasing confidence of the horse and owner - creating a stronger bond - teaching useful skills (opening gates) - correcting undesirable behaviours - adding variety to your training program - enrichment for non-ridden horses - building trust in eachother - teaching new movements under saddle - mounting issues - loading problems - trouble leaving the yard for hacks Unfortunately there are lots of misconceptions about clicker training, many people believe that clicker training will cause their horse to become rude and bolshy around treats. However, when done correctly, these misconceptions aren't anything to worry about! Such a stunning longreining outing with my personal horse, Winnie, today 😍 Longreining & handwalking are fantastic activities to do with horses who aren't ridden, aswell as along side ridden work! It's also a great way to pinpoint areas to work on both in and out of the saddle... One of my clients today during a confidence building session with her new loan horse 🐎 She has set the fantastic goal of being able to confidently jump a double, aswell as ride Kia in an open space!
