Thank you !

This is Ruby who Emma helped us trained and did solo dog walks for.

Emma is always reliable, very flexible and really understood what we wanted in breaking up Ruby’s day home alone and giving her exercise and stimulations.

It was reassuring to know she would be Emma’s sole focus on a walk and that she would be on a longline so she was always safe, cared for and attended to.

Ruby and I would recommend Emma to anyone as trainer or dog walker.

Meet Penny💕

Penny lives with two other dogs and I have been part of their lives for the best part of a year now as there were many issues within the home such as an inappropriate elimination, resource guarding & separation anxiety. All three of the dogs have come along way, but Penny does have a massive over attachment to her owner so I help walk her weekly to help build her confidence when away from her Mum.

When I first started walking Penny, I was unable to move her away from the home but she now has built the confidence to walk with me & she now walks happily sniffing & walking for 45minutes once a week.
Penny is a great character, she is extremely sensitive but we have built a special bond in our time of walking with each other❤️

I walk Rose solo weekly 🥰
Her Mum needed help & guidance with her reactivity towards other dogs .

Rose is such a super character ! She communicates with me so well when she would like to greet another dog and when she finds other dogs too threatening/intimidating.
I report back to her owner about how her walks have gone and tell her owner ways we can help build her confidence levels when out walking.

When given space and time to assess she is happy to greet other dogs & her confidence levels are improving massively.

I have known Pixie since a young puppy & walk her regularly.
She really is such a pretty girl & she knows it!

Pixie is a noise sensitive girl so she doesn’t like to be walked in very busy, noisy places.
She much prefers to stick to the backstreets and quiet , big open fields. She loves to run and can sprint superfast!
She loves her treats and cuddles & gets on super well with my girls so sometimes I will walk them together.

It’s nice that she is very local to me so I see her very often .

Merlin 💙

I walk Merlin weekly. I’ve known him for about a year now as I originally saw him for territorial reactivity.

He really is a lovely lad. Walks beautifully on lead & has a great recall off lead.
I often take him for a paddle in the stream as he loves water.

Merlin is sound sensitive so we avoid busy areas and give him lots of space around ‘noisy’ things.
He likes dogs but doesn’t choose to play with them . He enjoys his walks on his own and loves to sniff.

Love my walks with Merlin ❤️ A real gentle lad with a kind soul .

I have known Ralph since he was eight weeks of age when he came to my puppy training classes .
He’s always been such a character! An absolute pleasure to walk. He’s very strong minded & tells me exactly where he wants to go! Loves to sniff & tells me the exact dogs he wants to say hello to & ones he wants to avoid . He is super sensitive around busy roads as he hates lorries so we avoid busy roads where we can & stick to quiet grassed sniffy areas which he enjoys.

My name is Emma owner of Competent Canines (please also check out my training page Competent Canines).

I am a qualified dog trainer, accredited behaviourist & experienced Vet Nurse of 25 years.
I have been teaching puppy/adult dog training classes and offer one-to-one training and home visit behaviour consults for over 15 years using kind reward based methods of training.

I realised there was a call for owners who own dogs who prefer to be solo walked.
This may be because they are anxious, need some one-on-one time, entire, reactive or just generally prefer to be walked on their own rather in a group.
Some owners prefer it from a safety perspective aswell.

Many owners ask me if I can train their dog when I walk them such as recall training or loose lead walking.
This can be accommodated with training pointers for owners to work on at home if discussed with Emma beforehand (pricing structures may vary).

I therefore have opened up my diary for some weekday solo walking slots in my local area so I can offer this service as well as training & behaviour work.

I have many excellent reviews and you can be assured that your dog will have the most ultimate one on one attention with myself when out walking.

I am honest, reliable and trustworthy and will only have your dogs safety and well-being at the fore.
