So many are asking how Bear is doing so I will pop an update below with a few snippets of his recovery x
Well Monday Mr Bear had his visit at the vets , they hadn’t seen him for a month as they said there was nothing other than pain relief they could do , baring in mind he was fully paralysed on his back end and they wanted us to put him to sleep as they said he had no quality of life , no feeling in his back legs and would not walk again and also was doubly incontinente and was in nappy’s 24hours , I knew on day one that in himself he was still the same he wasn’t screaming in pain as he couldn’t feel anything so I wanted to give it ago two vets out of 3 disagreed with me they said I would never be able to give him the care he needed and only a hospital environment could keep him comfy and manage him . Well fast forward almost 7 weeks it’s not been easy don’t get me wrong, and Iv shed many tears and doubted myself many times especially the first week expressing his bladder was so tough then he began to wee alone but unaware he was going so changing a dogs nappy multiple times an hour every hour of the day , massaging his legs daily , using a electric toothbrush to stimulate feeling in his back feet daily multiple times , placing wheat bags on his back nightly , purchases a red light therapy pen to use nightly on his back legs to help him heal , taking him everywhere with me plus his strict crate rest has took it out of me but 1.5 weeks in while stroking his belly he moved a leg and I couldn’t believe it , so we kept going still unable to walk it was a sign and then while on holiday week 3 he got up on his 4 legs , yes very wobbly but he was up now look at him the vet couldnt believe it yesterday he was shocked and I mean very shocked . He is now off gabapentin and only on metacam and the vet has finally agreed to keep doing what I’m doing it has worked yes he is still wobbly but he has lost his muscle and now needs to slowly be rebuilt , life will be slower to avoid a flare up but he is happy and comfy and I’m super proud . Here’s to the road ahead continuing his healing .
