HOME NEEDED. We have a lovely 6 month old neutered male looking for his forever home. He is very confident, loves people and is good with children too. He has a lot of kitten energy so needs an enriched home environment or access to a safe outdoor space. He is microchipped and due his second vaccine in the coming week and would need to be kept inside for at least 4 weeks if outdoor access is to be considered. Please contact the practice via email at [email protected] if you would like to offer this lovely boy a home.

Missing Cat!

George escaped yesterday from his carrier whilst in the care of his owner next to her car. The owner is absolutely distraught and has searched all day and night yesterday. The owner searched again at 3am and 7am. Posters have been put up around Pope Road and Bromley Common. We are certain that he is frightened and hiding in someone’s shed or garage. If you see a cat that resembles George please call us as soon as possible on 0208 4607222

We have had a stray tortoise handed in on Saturday by a member of the public, found in the Sundridge Park area. Unfortunately it is not microchipped so we have been unable to locate an owner. While we can keep it safe for the week while searching for the owner, reptiles require specific care so a reptile rescue has kindly offered to take it next Wednesday if the owner isn't found. If you think this might be your tortoise we will need photographic evidence to prove ownership. If you have any information that might help to reunite the tortoise with its owner please phone the practice on 0208 290 1698.

Little Indie Rose recently learnt the hard way that bees are not a tasty treat and was stung when she ate one in the garden. Her owner noticed facial swelling and brought her down straight away. Indie Rose was given an antihistamine and steroid injection to reduce the swelling. She was admitted for observation to ensure the swelling did not affect her airways and breathing which could result in a life threatening situation. Thankfully the swelling did not spread and she made a full recovery. We hope she has learnt her lesson and will leave the bees alone in the future!

It's officially summer! And that means it's grass seed season! Every year we remove lots from paws, ears, eyes, gums... You name it, we've probably removed a grass seed from it! They are often extremely painful and can require sedation to be removed safely. If left they can track deeper into tissues with rare cases making their way up legs and into chest cavities!

Chase was unlucky enough to have four grass seeds in his ears which is this year's record so far! (One last week and 3 this week) He was also extremely brave and allowed them all to be removed consciously!

Meet Rupert, an adorable Labrador puppy who recently had surgery to repair his umbilical hernia. This is a congenital condition meaning he was born with it. Often we will repair these at the same time as neutering so that the patient only has to have one anaesthetic. However, as his hernia (which is visible just left of Laura's elbow) was quite large, we were concerned his abdominal contents could become trapped and stuck in the hole if left. Here he is having cuddles with Vet Laura as his sedation took effect. His surgery, performed by Kylie, was successful and he is coming back for regular checks to ensure it all heals well

Can anyone guess which patient passed this worm?

Worming treatments are important for all species as they can cause gut problems, abdominal pain and affect digestion. Unbelievably this patient showed none of these signs and was brought to assess an injury after a run in with a fox!

📣 Microchipping of cats is now compulsory in England.

Please contact our reception as a matter of urgency if your cat does not have a microchip, and we can give appropriate advice.

If your cat is already microchipped, please make sure the details on their microchip are kept up to date. Any changes to address or phone numbers need to be updated with the company the microchip is registered with. Details of this should be on your microchip paperwork, or failing that please contact our reception team for advice.

Keeping your details up to date might well prevent your pet from being lost or stolen!

Meet Layer who came in today to see Laura having over done it at the buffet! Layer had eaten too much grass and it had become knotted and stuck in her crop causing an impaction. She was the perfect patient and allowed Laura to perform the procedure consciously using local anaesthetic so she didn't feel a thing! She hasn't lost her appetite though so her food intake will need to be carefully monitored while her wound heals but with some TLC we expect her to make a full recovery!
