Clients please let us know if you don’t want a pop in the day before you’re booked in to avoid being charged, we schedule our days in advance to accommodate everyone 🙏

Again, walks will be switched up today to garden visits when it gets too hot. This is our policy as we won’t put your dogs in harms way 😥 it’s all fine until it’s your dog that suffers! It’ll soon be freezing cold again! 😂

Updated advice on heat stroke:

💦 *Wet then Vet* 💦

The latest heatstroke research has been released by the RVC who found that if your dog has heatstroke, then get them immersed in cool water (keep their head above the water) or use your hosepipe to wet them down then put in the car with the air conditioning on or the windows open and get to a vet. True heatstroke needs to be properly treated at a vet as it causes multiple organ damage that needs to be medically treated.
DO NOT cover your dog in wet towels, this actually heats them up further!

Signs of heatstroke in dogs:
‼️ Excessive panting
‼️Weakness
‼️Collapse
‼️Reddened gums
‼️Vomiting
‼️Diarrhoea
‼️Confusion
‼️Disorientation
‼️Lethargy/disinterest
‼️Muscle tremors
‼️Seizures

Of course the best way to treat heatstroke is to avoid getting it in the first place :
🐶 Don’t walk your dog in the midday sun (British dogs are not acclimatised to the sudden heatwave)
🐶 Walk short nosed dogs (French Bulldogs, Pugs, etc.) early in the morning or late at night. They are far more susceptible to the heat and struggle to cool themselves down.
🐶 Dogs don’t always recognise that they are getting too hot- especially if they are chasing a ball. Don’t throw balls for them in the heat, they will keep going beyond safe limits.

Clients, this afternoon we may be switching walks to visits due to the heat. We have a cut off point which is just too hot to walk dogs, they don’t enjoy it & we won’t put dogs in harms way.

On Saturday we took Birch Hill Dog Rescue resident Ross on another excursion😍

This was supposed to be a normal trip with a gorgeous walk to a waterfall, but due to Ross just being an all-round star, we extended it and decided to visit a castle too. Big thank you to John & Angie Brewer for gifting this trip to Ross, & those who donated to our fundraising recently.

I really hope you are all recognising this handsome boy now. 4 year old lurcher cross Ross gave us the most lovely greeting and threw himself into the car ready for our adventure.

Ross was great in the car again, no issues at all. We enjoyed a relaxing walk and had a play in the waterfall. Ross was such a good boy, he’s so very responsive to us now.

After his yoghurt toppl we made our way to the castle, where he did an amazing job taking it all in his stride. We passed strangers, children, dogs, push chairs, you name it! Ross kept himself to himself, felt comfortable enough with us to relax and that little bit of space from potential triggers helped him relax.

If Ross does feel worried about something, if you pay attention he tends to display displacement sniffing, where he will insist on sniffing something nearby whilst the scary thing is near. This is a great way for us to know how Ross is feeling & actually a great habbit of his to cope with anxietys. This is Ross signalling to us that he could do with some help to relieve him of any stress, by sniffing he is lowering his heart beat, so we must allow him to sniff to his hearts content, and create that space for him.

This dog has actually no reason to be in kennels any longer, 2.5 years is too long for such a good boy.

A reminder that he needs a pet free home with someone around often due to being worried when left alone.

Amazing to hear how well Buster is doing, what a good boy 💖

It’s official!

After a successful trial period and being the best boy, Buster is now adopted. 🥰

When Buster first came into our care 3 years ago, he was a very scared boy who would not let us anywhere near him and we had to build his trust slowly. We could see what a lovely, sweet boy he was inside and that he didn’t mean it when he’d shout at us. He was just protecting himself and his space but he slowly started to drop his guard and let us in.

We have to thank Charlene McQuoid-Guess at The Hayloft Pet Services for visiting Buster several times to help build his confidence in being handled outside of his kennel so we could then handle him better. Also for offering him a place in her rehabilitation kennel which thankfully, Buster didn’t need as after those few visits, he went from strength to strength and was coming out more and making lots of new friends.

Also, Cheryl Gibson at Shropshire Canine for taking him on a fantastic day out and raising his profile which saw gifts galore coming his way, an article in the local news, and a mention from Vicky Pattison. Suddenly everyone was talking about Buster and more people were seeing us and who we are and what we do.

Lastly, to Busters new family for coming to see him several times, for understanding him and for treating him like a king in his new home. We’ve been sent some lovely photos and videos over the last few weeks of how he’s been getting on which we’ll share shortly.

Buster is very much missed by all the team here, but we’re all so happy that Buster has found his perfect place to be, and we hope that he enjoys many happy years with his new family. 💙

⭐️💖 Doggy of the Day - Rescue Edition 💖⭐️

Name: Scooby
Breed: German shepherd
Age: 3
Likes: ball games, walks, water, people!
Cheekiest habbit: Chasing bees 🤦🏼‍♀️ gives the odd headbutt when you’re putting his harness on😆
Other dogs?: Possibly a female on succesful intros
Cats?: No
Kids: Older

For our first 💖 Rescue Edition 💖 it has to be the beautiful Scooby, who hasn’t yet found his home.

Scooby arrived in rescue due to his owner being poorly and not able to take care of him anymore. Scooby can be a strong boy so needs someone capable of continuing his training. He is super sweet and great with people, can be reactive to large male dogs. Whoever takes this dog home is going to have a loyal companion for life.

Meet my newbies 🥰 I am full for new clients but when I was asked to help someone so local to me in Broseley I knew I needed to make time!

So pleased with how we have started, Bruno let me take him for a walk after he had gotten used to me & turned into a cuddle bug. He was pretty frightened of me when we first met so I thought it would take longer.

Looking forward to building a great relationship with them all 🥰
