CHASE INSTINCT IN DOGS 🐕🦌

Does your dog bolt after squirrels, deer, or birds the second they spot movement? That urge to chase is deeply rooted in their DNA. 🧬 As descendants of predators, dogs have a powerful instinct to pursue moving animals—it’s natural, but it can also be dangerous.

Unchecked, this behavior can lead to lost dogs, injured wildlife, and serious accidents. It can also create stress and frustration in both dogs and their humans. But don’t worry—this instinct can be managed with the right approach.

✅ What helps? Channeling that drive into structured play and consistent training. Think: flirt poles, recall games, scent work, and impulse control exercises.

🔑 TOP TIPS:
• Train a solid recall—a reliable “come” can be a lifesaver
• Use long lines in open areas while training
• Practice “Leave it” and “Watch me” to redirect focus
• Provide structured outlets like fetch, chase games, and enrichment toys
• Avoid punishment—work with your dog’s instincts, not against them

Help your dog succeed by setting them up with boundaries, supervision, and lots of positive reinforcement. 🐾

How I do my bit as a small business to make dog training more accessible!

As a small one-woman business, I know how difficult things are at the moment. I have tried to make things as financially beneficial as possible by offering these things:

- Options for different services; my workshops and classes offer the same degree-level advice but for a fraction of the cost and cover my most commonly asked issues; recall & loose lead.
- Payment is taken after the session. You can book in today and book as many sessions as you like but you will not receive an invoice until after the session to spread payment out
- 1:1 sessions are structured as learning opportunities where I create a training plan for you and show you how to put it into place, lowering the need for multiple weekly sessions.
- No cancellation fee
- Discount codes if you book multiple sessions- message me for a 10% off code for 1:1 services!

I always try to help out when I can and offer lots of advice over message. I want to be as helpful as I can to dog owners and am always here if anyone needs me a🙌🏼

DESTRUCTIVENESS IN DOGS:

Dogs, descended from wolves and possess a natural instinct to dissect and consume. It manifests as chewing, shredding, and dismembering objects (think how many stuffed toys have died 🪦).

When these natural urges are not appropriately channeled, they can lead to destructive behavior, such as chewing furniture, digging, or destroying personal items. Ignoring this innate drive can lead to increased anxiety and stress for your canine companion.

Providing appropriate bones and toys is a safe and effective way to redirect your dog’s destructive tendencies. These items offer a healthy outlet for their chewing and shredding instincts, promoting mental stimulation and reducing anxiety. It’s crucial to select items that are safe, durable, and appealing to your dog.

TOP TIPS:

• Supervision: Always supervise your dog when they are chewing on bones or playing with new toys.
• Introduction: Introduce new bones and toys gradually. Allow your dog to investigate them and become comfortable with their presence.
• Rotation: Rotate bones and toys regularly to maintain your dog’s interest and prevent boredom.
• Monitoring: Monitor your dog’s stool. If they experience diarrhea or vomiting after chewing a bone, remove the bone and see if it settles, if not seek vet advice.

"Meat derivatives" = a mystery mix.
Meat/ Animal derivatives, or those of animal origin, refers to parts of animals/meat that is surplus to the human food industry. It can include anything from scrapings from the abattoir floor, to body parts not commonly consumed by humans.

They're often used in low-quality dog foods to cut costs — not to boost nutrition.

There’s no guarantee of the animal source, making it risky for dogs with sensitivities or allergies.

Choose clear, named ingredients like "100% chicken" or "duck breast" instead and always check the exact meat content, make sure it is high percentage!!!

Your dog deserves real, named meat...find the best natural treats here at The doghouse Kendal.
