Merry Christmas from Sussex House Call Vets! As per our obligations as your provider, we are here for you over the Christmas period, just as you can call 24/7 at any other time of year. All I ask is that you keep the chocolate, raisins, macadamia nuts, onion, garlic, chewing gum, any fatty or rich foods- basically anything other than their normal food 😂 - away from prying noses! Labradors I’m looking at you 👀

Call 07592131290 or 07576421002 in an emergency, or text/WhatsApp/FB message/smoke signal if it’s not an emergency. Emergency situations are generally: difficulty breathing, profuse bleeding, seizures lasting more than a minute or two, bloating in big dogs or straining to urinate in male cats. Have a safe and happy festive period! 🎅🏻 🎄

Obviously, pet death is one of the hardest things we go through with owners, but sometimes a meaningful tribute to your beloved friend can help ease the pain and process grief. These are some good suggestions ❤️

It’s a sad fact that every dog you’ll ever own will likely cross the rainbow bridge during your lifetime. Losing a beloved canine companion is a heart-wrenching experience, but finding ways to honor your fur baby’s memory can play a crucial role in healing from grief. Memorializing your dog al...

If this doesn’t tug on your heartstrings, I don’t know what will 💔 It’s shared with permission and written by a young boy whose beloved cat I had to put to sleep this week.

People often say to me ‘this must be the hardest part of your job’. And although it’s emotionally agonising at times, particularly when a child or elderly person is involved, it’s actually one of the most rewarding aspects of being a vet. That sounds weird but let me explain: losing your pet, and especially the responsibility of deciding to let them go, is such a difficult process to go through (for some people, worse than losing a human relative). If I can make that experience even a little bit easier for people, I really feel like I’m helping them. If it’s rushed or doesn’t go well, conversely it can add to the trauma, so it’s something I really pride myself in doing well. Almost all the thank you cards I’ve ever received have been post-euthanasia, and that tells you a lot.

Rest in peace, Bobbles 🌈 🌟 ❤️🕊️

A heart-tugging account of at-home euthanasia from an owner’s perspective. Oscar was lucky enough to have it done at home, which not all people can afford. We aim to level the playing field a little bit, with prices not much higher than you find in many traditional vet practices.

I will just clarify her question about the charge by weight: the bigger the dog, the more sedatives and euthanasia solution you use; also it’s a lot easier to deal with a 3kg chihuahua than an 89kg St Bernard, the latter of which I wouldn’t be able to carry or fit in cold storage. The more you know! 🤔😳
