Howling πŸ˜πŸ˜”
This one really really hit hard. It has made me sit back and take a moment to really think about all that i have done, and will continue to do for as long as I possibly can. All the bunnies I've encountered, helped, rehabilitated, saved, loved, and lost over my decade of rescuing them πŸ°πŸ‡ Even in my darkest hour, taking an important moment to reflect on all those beautiful bunnies, they remind me why I must carry on πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ
Get up, show up, and never ever give up πŸ°πŸ’œ

Peyton passed away in our shelter last night.

He came to us just yesterday, a weary soul found in a barn. Fourteen years old, underweight, half an ear missing, and struggling to breathe. His microchip, dating back to 2009, was a silent witness to a life that once was – a life that had somewhere turned bleak and lonely.

In his final hours, Peyton experienced moments of love and care that had been missing for so long. We cleaned his crusted nose, combed out his matts, and he purred, basking in the affection he so deserved. He clung to our warmth, his body going limp with trust and perhaps, relief.

This morning, we found him gone, his struggle quietly ended in the comfort of a soft blanket and a full belly. His departure is a profound reminder of the countless animals who face similar fates, animals whose stories go untold, whose lives end without a whisper.

Peyton's story is a glimpse into the harsh realities faced by many animals. It's a testament to the resilience and enduring hope they possess, even in the face of neglect and abandonment. It underscores the vital role shelters play – not just as a place of refuge, but as a final sanctuary where love and care are given, even if just for a moment.

As we mourn Peyton, let's remember the countless others like him. Each day, shelters across the country are filled with animals waiting for a second chance, for a family, for a home. They wait for someone to notice them, to care, to extend a hand of kindness.

Peyton's story is not just about loss; it's about awareness, compassion, and the bitter-sweet role shelters play in the lives of animals. In sharing his story, we hope to shed light on the unseen struggles and to inspire a community of care and support for these innocent lives.

Rest in peace, Peyton. In your final hours, you were surrounded by love, and your story will not be forgotten.

Little JP who arrived yesterday morning is now safely vaccinated, and settling into his new accomodation here at the rescue.
Pictured below is the box he arrived in, the box that he had to call 'home' before he came to me πŸ˜”
Please note this was NOT the previous owners fault, a drastic change in personal circumstances led to the box , then led to surrendering her beloved bunnies for their own welfare πŸ’”
Next on the to-do list will be to save up the Β£110 required to neuter this, ahem, rather excitable little lad πŸ˜ˆπŸ™„πŸ™ˆπŸ€£πŸ˜±
Once neutered, he shall be looking for a 10 🌟 furever home 🏑

And then, there's 🩡 M O O N 🩡 This blue eyed beauty was handed into the rescue last night, another major change in circumstances forced the family to give him up πŸ˜” Bunny Number 73, followed today by Pongo (74) and JP (75) (separate post on the boys)
Back to Mr Moon.......White rabbit, white rabbit, white rabbit, oh, and you knows it, white rabbit! 🀍🀍🀍🀍 I've had 4️⃣ FOUR 4️⃣ stunning PURE white bunnies handed in in the last week! The 3 males have blue eyes (BEWS) and the lady bun, Josie, had pretty pink/res eyes (REW)

This morning saw me take yet another 2 rabbits into the rescue. Through NO fault of their own, or their owner tbf, due to a terribly sad change in circumstances, these lads found themselves living in 2 boxes πŸ˜ͺ The lady knew it was only fair on the bunnies that she seek my help asap. So here we are . Bunnies 74 and 75. Sadly I am now TOTALLY FULL and although it will break my heart to say no, I cannot possibly allow any more bunnies into the rescue until some decent 10 🌟 adoptions take place. I'm petrified at the thought of the fate of those I cannot take 😭 but sadly, at 75 souls, finances now force me to close the doors to newbies.
This being said, any extreme emergencies PLEASE don't do anything stupid, please do still message me. As long as the emergency can be proven to be true and not simply fabricated to make me take the bunnies, then I shall endeavor to find a solution for u and your rabbit(s)

A great big VIPS welcome to Boss, who arrived today for his first 2 weeks holiday here at Mel's VIPS Bunny Boarding. We look forward to spending Christmas with u wee man! πŸ˜πŸŽ…πŸŽ„

Deep down inside we know that the best gifts don’t come from catalogs or shopping malls. They don’t come in brightly-colored packages or fancy envelopes and they’re not hiding in a closet for you to open on Christmas morning. The best gifts come from the heart. They come when we look at each other, REALLY look at each other and say: β€œYou mean a lot to me or I’m so glad you’re part of my life”. A gift like that will never go out of style or be forgotten or be returned for a different size. A gift like that can make someone’s day, change someone’s life or even save a life.

Winter is a time of rest and hibernation, of waiting for the light to return.
Just like seeds that wait silently in the ground, full of potential, we can just 'be'.
During the dark months, plants submerge their energy into their roots.
We can learn much from the seed and the natural environment.
We too are a natural part of the earth and are affected by the seasons. We would do well to go with the flow of these natural cycles.
It is not a time for doing too much. We need to slow down and pace ourselves, to preserve our energy - our energy levels are not as dynamic as during warmer months.

The mission that was Missy πŸ©·πŸ˜πŸ’”πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜€πŸ€¬

I'm actually crying watching this again, feeling pretty down today at the state of the rabbit world. November/December has seen me receive more surrender requests than ever before in my decade of rescuing waifs, strays, and neglected unwanted bunnies. Sometimes I just despair πŸ˜”

Last week, I began to tell you all about the worst case of matting neglect I've seen in 30 years spent with rabbits. This poor little scrap of a thing was brought to me after the previous owner admitted she could no longer care for her and also she was having another baby , so needed ridπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ When I first picked her up out the cardboard box she arrived in, you couldn't even tell face from butt, she was such a mess! You could hardly even tell she was a rabbit!!!! I spent my entire Thursday evening working on the poor soul. Fast forward, hours of trimming and grooming, nails clipped, and a full bag full of all the matted fur, and I finally uncovered the beautiful little bunny hidden under 18 months of matt growth and neglect....
... here's your first glance at little Missy πŸ’•

And today, she visited the vets for her spay operation βœ”οΈ Thanks John Bullen for running her to the vets this morning πŸš— Happy to say I collected her at 5pm from Albavet Veterinary Surgeons - Kirkcaldy , and she is now snuggled up in my wee boys room recovering πŸ˜€ I also had her vaccinated, as she'd never had this done before either πŸ₯Ί The money raised from Lily's Little Grazing Co. has paid towards the cost of todays operation, that plus a kind donation from Marie Laing leaves me just a further Β£70 to raise to pay off today's vets bill for Missy 🩷 Sarah Harsant is on the case trying to raise funds 😁 thankyou all so much for your continued love and support in helping me, help them 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰

Another day, another surrender to the rescue πŸ–€ This not so little lady didn't have the best start to life. She was found on the street as a youngster, and taken in to the family home of the son who found her. They tried their very best to take care of her in this year since finding her, and they do truly love her, but they also know deep in their hearts that she needs more. She needs vaccinated. She needs spayed. She needs more space than the hutch she was in. And most importantly she needs the company of her own kind πŸ°πŸ‡πŸ°πŸ‡ She also has a serious case of ear mites, which I've already began treatment for today! πŸͺ²
Welcome to the madhouse baby girl! πŸ–€ we all know I love a giant 😍 perhaps, once she's in good health, I wonder if she would like to join my herd of giants πŸ€” πŸ˜‰ 🩷

Thanks to the joint effort and teamwork of Kim Jack and Hayley Douglas for collecting and delivering πŸš— 🚘
The newly named Sam, Tony & Josie are settling in really well. Sadly, none are neutered πŸ˜πŸ’”πŸ™ˆ This will cost me in the region of Β£400+ 🀯 Any help, even Β£1, all adds up πŸ™Œ

Selling my wee CitroΓ«n Berlingo soon if anyone is interested. Much as I love it, it just isn't big enough for what I need anymore! It has 2 seats, I need atleast 3 for the children and I. And with 4 of our own dogs now, a transit suits us better.
The Berlingo is a '55 plate, 1.9 diesel, and only has 84,000 on the clock! Brilliant wee runner. Sad to see it go tbh.
