Kelly's Pawsitive training updates and methods for positive dog training

Sorry it's been a while since we've posted

Pan has decided to refuse and strop when going near or in the car, especially when we've taken him somewhere, he will full on lie down and refuse to move for like 30minutes because he doesn't want to go in the car. It isn't stress related, it's pure stubbornness.
So today I took a different approach and worked up to what's going on in this video. I'm using a long lead so he can come at his own will, a high tasting rewarding treat, only kept for car use, and keeping his energy high so he gets excited for the car!
As you can see, closing the door is too soon, so I made him wait and extended the time between, eventually I will lead up to closing the door, but this is a major progress considering he didn't strop by the car or rush out once in πŸ‘πŸΌ

This is a longggg road ahead haha!

So Pan has gone back to refusing to go in the car, and if he knows the route back goes towards the car he strops and refuses to move.
So had to go back to basics. First I would scatter food around the car so he could sniff them out and walk by the car, getting closer each time. (I used a high value treat) (ARDEN GRANGE LIVER PASTE!)πŸ˜‹
Then I allowed him to come into the car himself, so he is choosing to do it.

Now every walk, at the start, we'll go around the car, and mix it up to getting him in, he lies down and stops, but we sit in, and then he realises we aren't moving until he's in, gets in, reward, then back out and walk. We repeat this on the way back, so he will learn that every walk the cars involved so he doesn't need to refuse or strop🀣 keeping it positive and not forcing him, is the key for pan!

This was solved a year ago, now he's gone back to it- just proves being consistent is key! 🐾

Part two: Training to not react when someone comes to the door πŸšͺ πŸ””

Working on opening the door and saying hello, as if I was greeting them. When I did it the first time, he barked and left his position, so I started with a closed door and saying hello, then opened the door bit by bit.

(Yes you feel strange doing it, but needs must🀣)

Part one: Training to not react when someone comes to the door πŸšͺ πŸ””

Pan used to dive at the door and not let you near the door, we used to communicate via our kitchen window🀣
Whereas now, we can open the door.

The next step, is keeping him from going crazy, and trying to remain calm when we open the door and greet people.

Today's been a very full day of meeting new doggies and learning that Pan can't go into play mode all the time.
He did so well, and was calm with every single dog!
Teaching him and exposing him to these situations, allows him to learn to behave and be calm around dogs that aren't matching his energy levels! 🫢🏻🐾

*Muzzle training outside*

First time we went outside to see how he'd do, and to continue treating the muzzle as something positive. He did try to take it off but telling him no when he did, waited for him to calm down, then rewarded and praised. We only left the muzzle on for a short time, as it's the first time outside, but waited until he wasnt reacting to the muzzle and then took it off.

(including a lot of treats)
Kept things positive to get to this stage, and built up over time
THIS WAS NOT AN OVER NIGHT FIX

Pan hated being washed, brushed, shampooed etc
However, I seem to of found a way that works to do it by myself. Yes alot of treats were involved, but they are low calorie and he hasn't had any for a while and won't for a few days now either.

I did this, by scatter feeding the treats on the floor and pouring Luke warm water over him with doggy shampoo in, and massaged into his fur, then rinsed with water and brushed him. It's not the best wash, as we don't have an outside tap(which would be easier) but this is a HUGE STEP! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

Been teaching Pan to go to place and wait until we've finished eating.
This will provide calmness, relaxing, time out, training and space between us and him whilst eating.
We've only been doing it for a few days but being consistent HELPS MASSIVELY!
When he gets up, I stand up, walk towards him and tell him to go to place and wait πŸ–πŸ» (which you can see in the video). Some days I have to get up a lot more then others as he's sometimes in a crazy zone, but this morning I only got up once and then he relaxed! 🐾

*DESENSITIZING TO THE HAIR-DRYER TRAINING- ATTEMPT 1*

Pan HATES being groomed, brushed, washed, dried.. everything he needs basically πŸ« πŸ˜‚

I managed to scatter treats on the floor outside, to sort of wash his back and belly and rinse the shampoo off (need to work on it).

If he's distracted with treats, he'll keep still, he's just too smart so won't allow two people to do it, but I'm trying to keep it positive.

He hates the hairdryer so I thought I'd try to desensitize and work on it.
The first video I did he was a little jumpy, but reading pan I know he wasn't too stressed as he didn't snap and kept coming back for the food, whereas if you brush him without a treat, he will snap. So building up with the hair dryer on when giving him treats is helping desensitize the sound. I was holding it high up (still trying to dry a bit), but when I could see he wasn't too happy, I did stop and give him food, with the dryer still on.

Video below; I thought I'd try Greek yogurt (can get soggy peanut butter/squirty paste etc) as I was able to hold him in a position longer, without force, he did move away, as he isn't sure about the feeling of the dryer, but I did stop when he got too upset, but kept it positive with treats (which he loves) so he'd associate the dryer and things to something positive.

(However he is too smart and unfortunately will only let me brush him if I hand feed treats continuously on the stairs, so I haven't mastered without treats yet- but the fact he lets me do it there is a miracle πŸ˜‚)

I'll be using the EDUC LOW CALORIE treats broken in half, so he can have more, as treats should consume 10% of the diet.

This is mine and Pans new game πŸ€

Only teaching I did here was when he hit it back and high, I was excited and said good boy, which lead to this πŸ‘πŸΌ
