He used to just run across the road and not wait.
So I've been teaching him to sit at the side of a road and then only cross when I use the word "cross"
And he's doing great!
To do this, I'd get him to sit and when he moved, I said no and gave a little tug to come back to the path, and when he waited I said good boy, and said the word cross, then we both walked and I gave a treat. He learnt the word cross meant move and reward. When he waited I kept saying good boy in a calm quieter voice so he didn't get excited.
Can we just appreciate the loose lead walking ๐๐ผ
He did pull a bit, but a little tud and it went back loose.
We did greet loads of runners, bikes, and he was fine but he met dogs that were winding him up to play so he was going crazy on the lead to play haha!
But this was probably the most loose lead walking he's ever done ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐
Found a way to distract him to brush him๐๐ผ
But as soon as I let go of the Kong, he ran away and didn't allow to be brushed ๐
Today we started the "health check", Pan doesn't let you touch him, unless it's on his terms.
Believe it or not I was more to the side of Pan, rather than right in front, the video just doesn't catch that.
It's really important to notice when your dogs uncomfortable by noticing the signs, I saw his lip snarl, his stance change, so that's why I didn't try to check his teeth and focused on stroking him like normal.
As you can see, we hit a few hurdles, he snarled and tried to bite when looking at his teeth, so I stopped, waiting for him to calm down, and then just worked on touching and stroking around his head.
I knew this was going to be a challenge, but I'm determined, and next time what I might try is clicking the clicker sooner, rather than waiting until I'm finished, to see if that keeps him focused and calmer
It's all about finding a technique that works for that individual dog and positivity
Been a while since we muzzle trained, but today I didn't give a treat every time, I used the clicker, so he would keep doing it, as he didn't know when he'd get a treat, but the clicker is a positive sound and he associates that.
The aim today was keeping his nose in longer and trying to wrap the straps around without clipping them together, but also moving the muzzle towards him.
As you can see, he did amazing!!!!
This video was to show Ali what we'd achieved earlier that day๐
We also tried with Ali having a go, and Pan did what he did with me at the start, pawed at it, got a bit excited, so now we're working on Ali doing more as well
Continue following for more
*SOUND ON*
BRIEF CAPTION: Took pan to an agility field, he refused to leave, flopped and lay down, tried a different method to get him walking, by making him use his nose and search (he never got a single treat), but when he was sniffing where I pointed at a ""treat"" I praised with "good boy" so he knew this is what I wanted.
I forgot to record๐ซ hence this speaking video
Ps ignore the garden it's due a jet wash
As you can see, not every training session takes you to the next step or goes as planned.
He's been away all week, so we haven't been training, so thought I'd give it a go tonight, my plan was to keep him longer in the muzzle and hold the straps around his head... He clearly didn't feel comfortable with that, so I went back to nose in muzzle and reward .. but well work on it ๐พ๐๐ผ
Day 2 of muzzle training...
He's doing so well, we even started putting the command in.
Next step will be increase the time his nose is in the muzzle before the click, so he learns to hold it in place.
What positive reinforcement can do๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐พ๐พ
FIRST TIME MUZZLE TRAINING AND IM SO HAPPY!!
If anyone knows, pan had a bad experience with a muzzle and a vet visit and the last time he saw a muzzle he lunged and barked at it! But we've realised in certain situations it would be best if he had a muzzle, and I believe every dog should be muzzle trained in a positive way, because muzzles are not bad.
I have been clicker training him, so started off doing a click treat click treat and so on, to get his focus.
I then held the muzzle (harder than you think, muzzle in one had and a clicker/treat in another ๐คฃ) I placed a big treat inside the muzzle for him to see, and as soon as his nose went near / into the muzzle, I clicked, then gave another treat (because hes clicker trained now, he knows the click means a treat so it's positive reinforcement!!)
I was so excited he got this on the first attempt as I didn't think he would!
Next step: will continue to just hold the muzzle in my hand, not fasten it up or touch the straps yet, when his nose goes into the muzzle I will use the command "muzzle", still using the clicker and treat reward so he continues to have positive reinforcement but also learns a command with positive effects. And each time when he's got each step, I will increase the time his nose is in the muzzle before I click...
Well done PAN! ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
Today we tried all of his breakfast in his own bowl, made him wait until the first click, then moved to eat. As you can see, I kept my hand on the bowl while saying wait just incase he moved without command I could stand up. I kept my hand up with the clicker so he knows he's in training, as this helps him.
I stayed very close to him today, didn't touch him and didn't stay the full length of him eating, as it may have been too much for him at this moment in time.
But going forward, I'll increase the time I'm staying by him, then eventually work on being able to place a hand on him and straight off without growling.
He did so well today ๐
Day 2 of training food aggression.
As you can see, I'm using a different bowl to his normal as I think he sees that as his possession. Today I was able to get closer to his normal bowl sooner than I thought. I started by holding onto it, so if he lunged I was able to stand up quickly before he got the food.
I've trained him to associate the clicker with a treat.
I made him wait and when I clicked once, it meant he could move (taught him this), then I clicked again when eating, so he continued to associate the click with food, as he's food motivated.
Today was a success as I was able to sit by him, not touch him, but say good boy and stay by him when he's eating, whereas before he'd growl.
It's going to be a Longggggg road but we've got to start somewhere.
We also practiced and trained "heal" today and HE DID GREAT!
super proud of him today ๐
First day of clicker training by association: click with a treat.
As you can see, I waited for him to look at me before I clicked so he knows that he must look at me for a click&treat.
Clicker training is a positive reinforcement training method.
Pan has many flaws and needs a bit of work, so I'm hoping introducing clicker training will help with brain stimulation but also try and help with the things he needs work on ๐ค๐ผ๐๐ผ
