I've been thinking about this today. I see so many social media posts with trainers trying to convince guardians that prongs can't really hurt the dog as they have no sharp points, then putting the prong on a balloon and wafting it about.
My fingers have no sharp points, it'd be really difficult for then to pop a balloon...but I bet if I pressed them into my dogs throat it'd hurt and damage my relationship with them. ๐Ÿ˜”

I know of a few trainers that have been approached, like the LCA and I'm disappointed that a huge TV company allow this to happen. A man who is sold as an expert in his field.

Just goes to show how some people are driven by money and ratings, and not overly concerned at the methods used...as long as it makes good TV.

My first thought was to delete the email. I'm not a fan of Graeme Hall. I've watched a few episodes of his show, and in my opinion, he seems to make things up as he goes along, relying on outdated training methods.

However, I was puzzled. Was the โ€œcravatโ€ unwell, and they needed a stand-in? I'm a nobody โ€“ why on earth would they want to film me training a dog when there are so many high-profile trainers out there? Curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to give the researcher a call.

I'm still in shock as I write this. The researcher explained that they wanted to invite me to Lytham with my Border Collie to "demonstrate" to Graeme Hall how I would train my dog not to respond to a phone ringtone.

Graeme would then take my training method and use it to teach the Border Collie of the family seeking help โ€“ all while filming it for his TV show!

WTF ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I decided to dig a bit deeper and reached out to the force-free dog training community to see if anyone else had experienced something this bizarre.

It turns out that many trainers had also been asked to attend filming sessions to show Graeme how to train dogs before the cameras rolled. Most reported that they refused because of his methods, but a few had shown him and his team how to train a dog, only to be dismissed without any credit for their expertise.

I then did some open-source research on "The Countryโ€™s Best Dog Trainer," as the *Daily Telegraph* calls him. He has no formal training in canine behaviour or training. Heโ€™s essentially winging it with the help of whatever trainers are willing to show up and assist him.

According to his website, he charges ยฃ875 per session ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ง

Now Iโ€™m not someone who normally criticises other trainers. I prefer to let my clients decide if Iโ€™m the right trainer for them based on how I work with their dogs.

However, I couldnโ€™t let this pass without making it public knowledge.

If you're looking for a dog trainer, please avoid this programme and this man. You have no idea whose techniques heโ€™ll be using week to week, and given that most qualified and accredited trainers want nothing to do with him, the quality of training youโ€™ll receive is questionable at best.

Instead, do your own research and find a local trainer who aligns with your own dog training ethics. Organisations such as The IMDT or APDT - Association of Pet Dog Trainers can help guide you to qualified & accredited trainers in your area.

It's going to be hot throughout most of the UK this week so please take care of your canine companions.

Take extra care with your brachycephalic breeds (e.g. French Bulldogs, Boxers, Pugs, Boxers, Boston Terriers, Pekingese and lots more) as they are prone to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Itโ€™s important to know the signs which can include excessive panting, rapid breathing, extreme lethargy, disorientation, vomiting, diarrhoea, and collapse.

Take care and limit your dogโ€™s outdoor time when the weather is sweltering. Take walks early in the morning or in the evening, and donโ€™t leave your dog unattended outdoors.

"We started with Paul in May with our 4 month old Labrador puppy, Rex. Paul built a great relationship with both Rex, myself and my partner and Rex loved attending the sessions.

Each session has been super informative, useful and has helped us as new dog owners embed important routines and behaviours in and outside our home. Over the sessions, Rex accessed recall training, use of markers & cues, retrieval, importance of treats, calm time, keeping busy and transitions into adolescence.

Paul has been outstanding with understanding Rex and always went out of his way to meet our needs. He has always been on hand for advice, support and alternatives in helping Rex settle into his new home, how to approach other dogs and giving clarity on how Rexโ€™s mind works. Cannot thank Paul enough."

Did you know, something as simple as sniffing a pile of leaves can have a calming effect on your dog? ๐Ÿ‚

Engaging a primary scent or carrying out repetitive actions such as licking or chewing (providing thereโ€™s no threat in the environment) are considered meditative processes. Why? Because they support appropriate gating of sensory integration.

This damping down of activity between neurons means thereโ€™s less traffic between the different brain areas, making communication much more ordered and rhythmical.

Home made Liver Cake (for dogs) baked this evening, cut up, and bagged ready to put in the freezer! Each bag has about 85g of liver cake in it, at an estimated cost of 35p per bag! Took me an hour in total to do. There's just 3 ingredients in it...lambs liver, egg, and spelt flour. The treats you buy from a pet store can cost about ยฃ2-ยฃ4 per 80g bag! Save yourself some money and prep your own treats! You're dog, and your purse/wallet will love you for it!

This little lad is off on new adventures, so we had our last walk yesterday. Such a cracking dog, full of energy and love! You'll be missed, Dizzy โค๏ธโค๏ธ

A brilliant session was spent with Sharon and Marley this afternoon. The journey of loose-lead walking is progressing beautifully. We spent some time doing some heel work, teaching Marley touch, talking about meeting a dogs needs, and much more... A superb job over the last week from Sharon and her family. Just goes to show that when you all help teach and stick to the plan, how fast things progress ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Another fun day out with the Dynamic crew! Finished the day with the beautiful Maya and some scatter feeding search games on the biggest snuffle mat you can get...a field!

On our way from our week in Northumberland, we stopped off at Fountains Abbey for a few hours. WOW!! I've never seen as many deer in one place! Absolutely amazing place to visit ๐Ÿ˜
