People always ask me ‘𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹?'
The truth is how long is a piece of string?
It took my working line Border Collie a couple of weeks and her recall is insane but that’s her breeding just as much as it was training!
However it took miniature Dachshund at least 2 years and again that’s her breeding, she’s a hound she’s bred to find a scent and follow it!
So many factors depend on how well and how quickly your dog will learn a recall such as
🐾Breed
🐾Motivation
🐾Personality
🐾Consistency
🐾Building a recall around distractions
𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧
🐾Using a long line
But once you’re there it’s worth all the time and effort you’ve put into it!

Thank you so much to everyone that’s come to classes today!
5 classes in one day, I’m well and truly blessed 😇 (and tired🤣)
We had so many successes and wins today and every single dog has done amazing!
But I’d like to give a super special shoutout to Wolfie who did absolutely amazing today, he’s very nervous of new places but he absolutely smashed it today and settled so nicely in these new unfamiliar surroundings 🫶🏻
Thanks all and we’ll see you next Saturday, please don’t forget we’re at the secure field as a one off 😊
Beginning training early with puppies is essential for their development. It’s important to focus on key skills like loose leash walking, recall, sitting, and drop cues.
River, for example, started attending our classes at just 13 weeks old—a tiny, adorable puppy. Now, he’s enrolled in our advanced classes and impressively skilled, thanks to the dedication and hard work of his owner.

Why I 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 giving snacks out whether during training sessions or out on walks:
1. 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Dogs learn best through positive reinforcement, where they associate good behaviour with rewards. Treats act as an immediate reward, reinforcing desired behaviours and encouraging dogs to repeat them.
2. 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Food is a powerful motivator for most dogs. Treats keep them engaged, focused, and excited to learn, making them more willing to follow cues and try new behaviours.
3. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁: Regularly rewarding with treats builds trust between you and your dog. They associate training sessions with positive experiences, which makes them more eager to participate.
4. 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Because treats offer instant gratification, they help the dog quickly understand that the behaviour they just performed was correct, making the learning process faster and more efficient.
5. 𝗕𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗜𝗧'𝗦 𝗙𝗨𝗡!
Overall, treats make training more engaging, enjoyable, and successful by motivating dogs and reinforcing good behavior.

Max’s breathing like he’s done a marathon,
Chase trying to eat treats with a ball in his mouth, and Thor showing the reason why I throw or drop treats by chomping my fingers off 🤣🤣
Just another day doing the job I love 💗

Teaching the "and away" cue involves guiding dogs to walk away from other dogs on cue, promoting focus and control in distracting environments. Positive reinforcement is crucial in this process. Here's a step-by-step outline of how this might be practiced:
1. **Set Up the Environment**:
- Arrange the training space so that the dogs are in pairs or small groups but with enough space between them to avoid any direct interaction or tension.
2. **Introduce the Cue**:
- Start by having the dog in a neutral position (sitting or standing) with their owner.
- The owner holds the leash in the opposite side to the dog and ensures that the dog is focused on the owner with a treat as a lure.
- Introduce the verbal cue "and away" in a calm and clear tone.
3. **Start Moving**:
- Once the cue is given, the owner gently leads the dog away from the other dogs. The movement should be calm and steady, encouraging the dog to follow without pulling.
4. **Use Positive Reinforcement**:
- As soon as the dog begins to move away from the other dogs, reward them immediately with a treat or praise. This reinforces the idea that moving away on cue is a desirable behavior.
- Ensure that the reward is given only when the dog is moving away in response to the cue.
5. **Gradual Increase in Difficulty**:
- Start with short distances and gradually increase the distance and complexity of the environment (e.g., introducing more dogs or distractions).
- Each successful response should be followed by positive reinforcement, whether through treats, toys, or verbal praise.
6. **Practice Repeatedly**:
- Repeat the exercise in different contexts within the class, with various levels of distractions. Consistency is key for the dog to understand and respond to the "and away" cue in different situations.
7. **Incorporate into Daily Walks**:
- Practice this cue during daily walks, particularly in situa
